Bridging cavity gap for floor insulation

I think the internal block that sits higher than the slab it’s a full block, so knocking the entire block out would mean the block works is lower than the slab. Is this ok? I thought best to chisel the block in half so it’s flush with the slab?

    Shower waste in celotex insulation

Yes, I’d originally planned for 100mm but went higher so that the floor could be level between the older part of the house and new. Figured more was better anyway. I figured I’d make a 1ftx1ft cut in the 50mm celotex and shutter the outside to prevent the screed flowing in. Then run the pipe out...

Bridging cavity gap for floor insulation

Ok thanks both for that. Will I get a clean ish line chiselling the block work out or I there a better way? For ref, the floor insulation is 100mm celotex with a further 50mm celotex on top. If I chisel blocks down to slab level and upstand some in cavity the same height as the 100mm, I should...

Bridging cavity gap for floor insulation

Ok so I should chisel the inner block work to be level with the slab under the celotex. Tuck the existing pc material between the slab and celotex, stand celotex up in the cavity and run the top layer of celotex over it up to the outer wall? I’ve had this debate with the architect and builder...

    Shower waste in celotex insulation

Hello. I’ve been laying down some celotex in my extension ready for UFH and screed and it’s just dawned on me that once down I’d be a bit stuck for any waste other than sink and wc above the floor. Is it ok to cut a channel in the celotex and run a standard plastic pipe along and out the wall...

Bridging cavity gap for floor insulation

Hello. I’ve recently been laying celotex 150mm myself in my extension ready for the UFH and screed. When coming to the folding doors I’m not exactly sure what to do to bridge the cavity. I’ve read a couple of threads on here about filling with concrete but I’m not sure if this is right. I’d...

    DIY UFH should I attempt?

Hi All. Im currently doing as much as I can on a extension. Im looking to install some UFH and have laid 100mm celotex on the floor slab ready for the UFH pipes. The space is approx 90m2 with 3 rooms. Bedroom + ensuite and a living room. Ive watched plenty of videos and laying the pipe looks...

    Anyone know what causes this?

I scraped some paint off the wall and stuck a bit of cling over the wall last night, no condensation this morning... ill leave it a few days. Was hard to get it stuck down as the tape just lifted the paint off. I noticed on the sections where the paint had 'bubbled' that the plaster behind it...

    Anyone know what causes this?

The paint issue happens on both walls either side of the stairs. (see drawing and pictures) so the wall to the left of the staircase as looking up the staircase is a internal partition wall between the ground floor room and staircase. If it was only on the party wall then perhaps I could...

    Anyone know what causes this?

Hi Ken, Thanks for the tip. Id seen some videos online of the Efflorescence giving false readings through the two prong damp meters due to salts being conductive so had not bothered. Ill look at the other type but ill certainly try some clingfilm over. Ill use tape to hold it on, not too fussed...

    Anyone know what causes this?

Yeh it looks exactly like damp . I’ve had a humidity meter in the Hall for the past 6 months and it’s showing dry. It’s gypsum plastered. Ive read about that efflorescence before or something to do with salts coming through. There is a cellar the floor below, the walls aren’t external, it...

    Anyone know what causes this?

Hi ken Sorry, I should have said I had the walls re plastered approx 6 years ago. It’s progressively got worse

    Anyone know what causes this?

neither wall are external. The plaster is not wet or damp. The paint lifts and goes chalky. Below the stairs is another staircase that goes to a cellar. I’ve sanded and repainted a few times.

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Had a few builders look at it and got mixed opinions and wildly different quotes. So I decided to have a go myself. Just to help anyone else that’s a bit stuck. Cost me £30. -£10 for a plastic periscope vent off eBay with 2 vents (one for testing) -£20 for sand/cement, bucket and a trowel I...

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Am I right in thinking the suggestion is a 2 pipe system? One with a fan ‘pushing’ air out of the cellar and another pipe that is ‘passive’. When I was googling I’d seen something similar a while back. I think internally one pipe was longer, something to do with colder air being lower so falling...

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Thanks for the advice. Yep creative for sure, but the other sides of the cellar aren’t accessible externally as it’s smaller than the foot print of the house. The floors in the house are solid stone slabs with no cavity, no joists etc. I presume the areas that don’t have a cellar are just rubble...

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Any ideas what to put on the external end to prevent water ingress and rodents getting in? Also would the fan draw air in or push air out

Cellar ventilation ground level coal chute

Hi all. I did a bit more research and found some periscope air bricks. I’ve also dug out the old coal chute and covered with a slab to stop rain pouring in. What I’ve found is that the solid ground floor forms the cellar roof. They are huge slabs, as such I can’t chip out a stone one course...
