    Fence (Basics)

I know I'm probably stating the obvious but the posts need to be 6 ft apart inner-face-to-inner-face and not at 6 ft centres.

Scaffold Plank TV Unit - Advice Required for Newbie Please!

    1) You can see the joints if you look carefully. They are plugged. You drill a hole through the side into the shelf to take a longish screw. Using a plug cutter set you drill a larger hole part way into the side to sink the screw head and make a plug from a bit of scrap and tap/glue it into the...

What on earth does this mean? Legal speak.....

Not withstanding the herefore mentioned combined wisdom of this illustrious forum :) you might also want to take a look at the forum at www.gardenlaw.co.uk where they discuss all this sort of stuff. In fact, reading the various threads there make you feel so fortunate if you at least haven't...

Continually running header tank but not overflowing

I would:- 1. Check that no water was coming from the hot cylinder expansion pipe into whichever cold water tank in the loft (this would probably indicate a hole in the coil inside the HW cylinder) and could depend on the relative heights of the two loft tanks. 2. Assuming you have floorboards...

Help with leak on my hot water tank.

Can you clarify which tank you are talking about. From your description I assumed it was the hot water cylinder but some of the replies seem to be assuming it's the cold water storage tank.

Desperate for someone with planning expertise to help us

Given the relative angles and heights of their rooflights and your bedroom window, will they actually be able to look into your room or just the first few feet of your ceiling and anyone/anything at the window? You also need to consider that whoever is occupying this extension is probably not...

    Electric Drill Problems!

You need an "anti-Newtonian switch" whereby when you're drilling into a hard wall using the hammer setting there is no equal and opposite force which pushes you off your step-ladder! And a "stabilisation" setting whereby this hole doesn't end up twice as wide as the drill bit!

Lots of fencing, not a lot of money....

How about stock fencing? Did a quick Google and found this site. No idea how current it is or anything else about this company (the phone number is Somerset) but it might give you some ideas or relative prices. http://grahamgjfencing.co.uk/GJFENCINGServices.aspx

    Garage refurb

Rather than having the asbestos roof removed (which will be expensive) have you considered painting it, maybe with a rubberised paint? A dark green or black would probably look good and then it also wouldn't be "dangerous".

how much is 84 by 100 millimeters in concrete to lay

That would be 8.4 cubic metres. Actually, 6 inches would be better for a drive (total 12.6 cubic metres). You might get away with less if you're using reinforcement bars. You could use this calculator ... http://www.pavingexpert.com/calccon3.htm

how much is 84 by 100 millimeters in concrete to lay

OK, but there is still confusion. You said 84 by 100 millimetres. Thats about 3.5 by 4 inches. I'm sure that's not what you meant. Please supply correct dimensions for length, width and depth and say what the concrete is for as this might affect its make-up.

how much is 84 by 100 millimeters in concrete to lay

8,400 square millimetres - just a little bit bigger than a credit card! What dimensions did you mean? And how deep do you need?

Is there a modern Floor Standing boiler?

I had a similar thing done about a year ago. I had a Potterton Kingfisher boiler in the kitchen - open vented, pumped CH and gravity HW (3-bed semi). I had it replaced with a wall mounted Worcester Bosch in the attached garage. It included converting to fully pumped including new pump, two...

    Fence is falling down!

Your hole is a concrete-in type Metpost. It looks like the bottom of the post has been sat in the water and rotted away. It also looks like it might have been tapered before fitting - don't replicate that! If you get a new properly pressure treated fence post and hammer it into the hole (the...

How to block (cover) large air vent in bedroom

Thanks for raising the issue, I should have mentiioned it as a caution. Yes, I do have a gas cooker in said kitchen but the ventilation and extraction is still within specifications. It was just the big vent which provided the extra fresh air needed for the boiler which I blocked up.

laminate laying in a bay window'd room

Try this method: Loose lay another piece of laminate exactly on top of the bit you've already laid but maybe sticking out further at the short end towards the bay. Now loose lay another piece of laminate along the skirting of the bay so that it overlaps the other piece. Draw a line down the...
