What do you mean cutting the cord makes no difference?? No both switches don't have to be on for the lights to work. they work as normal. I will take a pic and put it on here

Thank John The space between the rafters is quite large would it be advisable to put any wood noggins in to support the middle of the chipboard to stop it bowing?

Thank you. I just realised I had forgotten to mention something in my first post. The rafters have 2 cuts in them so the middle section of the rafter is joined either end by the plate. is that a problem I have put another picture to show.
