    Video Door Phones/Intercoms

I am considering a video system at my home's entry door so I can see who is there outdoors before I open the door. Looking on Ebay there are many advertised at a range of prices and brand names I do not recognise. Has anyone any knowledge or experience of these plus recommendation of suppliers...

    Hikvision advice please

I intend to install a new cctv system, I am considering Hikvision DS-7204HUHI-F1/S dvr and 5mp cameras DS-2CE56H1T-ITM. I may yet go for 8 channel version of the dvr to allow for expansion. I have been told that recordings of 5mp cameras will only playback in a aspect ratio of 4:3 instead of...

    Speed camera detectors

I am talking about a stand alone unit, they cannot be illegal because as you point out many sat nav's have this detection built in.

Does anyone use one, how do you find it and what model/make is it. My interest in these things has been sparked by the Drivesmart pro.

The fridge section has stopped cooling, the freezer continues to operate although it seems a little colder than before. The unit has individual temperature controls for each section which have always be set at three quarters since new, I have tried putting the fridge control at max. but this...

In a few places on the underside of my floorboards under the bathroom there is a white powder. The boards are perfectly dry and are not soft, there was a water leak some time ago but this was sorted. I have taken a couple of photos and I will attach one if I can.

I have now called the helpline number given on the instructions, and they confirmed that low energy bulbs can damage the timer and cause failure of it. Taking it back for a refund today, thank you all for your comments.

    Plug In Time Switch

I have just purchased a plug in time switch a Masterplug Tes7 to act as a security device by switching on/off a couple of table lamps when I am not at home. In the safety warnings given in the instruction leaflet it states " do not use with energy saving bulbs " so looks like I will have to...

Adding a Risco IR beam detector to a Scantronic 9448+

You are missing the point , if you have detection outdoors of any kind you will suffer false alarms ie from postmen etc as Europlex points out.

Adding a Risco IR beam detector to a Scantronic 9448+

I was part owner with my late husband of an approved security company employing 15 engineers before we retired and sold the business. Any detection device that could active an intruder alarm must be inside the protected building otherwise false alarms will occur, this is not good for neighbours...

    Washer moving about

I have checked the level and all is ok, when the problem occurs its at the very start of the slow spin there is a bump noise and the machine moves in a anticlockwise direction by several inches as viewed from above, leaving it stuck out at an angle. I attach photo.

Adding a Risco IR beam detector to a Scantronic 9448+

You must not have any device external to the protected property that could active the outside sounder, I am not familiar with the panel you have but if it allows a zone to be programmed on chime alone but NOT extended the alarm when its armed then ok. However I feel uneasy with your proposal it...

    Washer moving about

My Hotpoint Ultima wf860 has started when using low spin speeds to shake about and move forwards and sideways from under the worktop. This happens mainly as the spin cycle begins and again as it comes to a stop, all other operations seem ok including fast spin. I wondered if it could be weak...

    Hotpoint WF860 auto washer

My machine has started to jump around at the start of the spin cycle and often knocks during the spin, this happens often but not every wash, it seems more likely to do this on slow spins with low temperature loads. The unit is around ten years old and has been very reliable and I still like it...

Central Heating Is This Consumption Ok ?

Oh seems like I am being a little misguided, how do you check that the boiler is running at its most efficient, does it require instruments, and what does one check and adjust, or do you have to call in a engineer.

I moved into this property at the beginning of the summer, it has a five year old Baxi Due-tec 28 combi boiler, with which I hope to stay warm and pay as little as possible, I have not as yet been operating the CH system. I am still spending my evenings in my south facing conservatory in which...
