    Bathroom fan permanently on

Get a volt stick and work out which is permanent live and which is switch live. You can also do this by experimentation; with light off switch off at circuit fuse leave for 10 seconds then switch fuse back on. If correctly wired then fan should not come on. If it comes on then switch live and...

    Which alarm?

Europlex wrote: Not necessarily, I remember a customer who had, 2, yes 2 Doberman, running free, both hit over the head with a hammer, the result, 2 dead Doberman. A dog of any flavour is only of real use to make a noise to alert you > If You Are In that is. ] It will have to be the...

    Which alarm?

It has to be a dog with proper teeth AND attitude! That is why, in some way the mother-in-law is better: few teeth but LOADS of attitude.

adding external extension from electric access

Does that spare conduit lead to the roof or back the board. If back to the board then take a new supply from the board to the box and from thence to the equipment. I would be reluctant to tap into the existing circuits but it is a possibility provided you are knowledgeable enough about loads...

    Which alarm?

By the way, a burglar would (and many do) take a chance where an alarm is in situ - they are less likely to take a chance with a large set of canines!

    Which alarm?

http://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-premium-wireless-4-room-alarm-kit/54473# The expensive part will be getting someone else to install it. I would always opt for a wired system but this is a useful kit with minumum installation hassle. Personally, I install Texecom products and buy from these...

Where to buy standard domestic wire on a roll

Do not take off the plastic packaging; start from the centre of the roll and poke the cable through the plastic wrapping and it pulls out easy enough. Lot easier if you have a bod at both ends. Definitely more time consuming.

    Threading Conduit

I understand - thats why I replaced the CU no functional earth, no rcd.... shared neutrals....blue cable for permanent live.. I bought my stuff from OBI but nothing matched Schneider MCBs, Chint RCD, non descript enclosure... I made up the board in the store before I was satisfied it would all...

    Threading Conduit

By the way, Fidom, I think you will find that cable in Hungary is solid and not stranded. If kept straight and with the cables staggered and taped to a nice tapered end you should be able to push 4m through without too much difficulty. Stranded cable just buckles and bends back on itself...

    Threading Conduit

That pre-wired stuff looks quite user friendly ban-all-sheds, I suppose it comes down to cost. French electricians use a fancy tool to push a draw wire through the conduit once installed. I spent three weeks in Hungary this year, Fidom, and I replaced a small consumer unit for a friend. I...

    Threading Conduit

I worked on a French property which has the same installation method you are using. For some lengths i measured of the correct length of conduit, took the conduit outside and weighted it each end (brick on top) wired it and then installed the flexi conduit pre-wired - the draw wire...

    New Consumer Unit

Sounds to me like the electrician did the appropriate tests and find a lack of continuity on at least one leg of the ring and took appropriate action in the circumstances. I assume the client (OP) was aware that problems might be found and if so extra work might be necessary. In this case he...

No Hot Water - Please Help!

I had this problem a couple of years ago. Checked the feeder tank and it was empty - ball-cock seized up and not letting water through. Bought replacement ball-cock (less than a fiver) and replaced it using a couple of adjustable spanners.
