    Solid Oak Worktop Prep

You should be able to pick up some Danish Oil from both B&Q and Jewson - the only thing is Danish Oil does not have an industry standard and all manufacturers produce different types. Are you looking for a matt version?

    Solid Oak Worktop Prep

I'd be surprised if you neet to do it more frequently than once every 6 months...the general "rule of thumb" is that once it looks a bit tired put another coat on. When applying coats in the future I'd recommend that you thin the Danish oil with approximately 10% White Spirit...

    Solid Oak Worktop Prep

Hi Chris, As other have indicated I would avoid using beeswax. It's primarily used on decorative furniture normally in conjunction with Shellac Sanding Sealer. Although this process produces a wonderful finish it will not stand up to much wear and tear. In my opinion you would be better...

    which wooden worktop oil?

In our opinion you'd be well advised to stay away from Hardwax Oil - it's not durable enough. Either go for Danish Oil or Worktop Oil . Both are extremely durable and provide a desirable matt finish (depending on manufactuer). Hope this helps. Woodfinishes1877

    Varnish floor with a roller

Some people use a roller but if you do make sure it has a very short pile otherwise you will experience spark marks. If you can you'd be better using as large a brush as you can handle or a lambswool applicator which definitely produces the best results. Hope this helps Woodfinishes1877

best finish 4 American White Oak

Great advice from awbcm, especially the bit about melting the wax into the surface, as mentioned you will achieve a far better result if this is carried out. Liberon wax sticks only come in a range of 16 different wood shades, you may wish to invest in some Konig softwax, they work in the...

how to lime oak kitchen doors

The first thing you need to do is determine whether you're looking for a white limed effect, ie the white remains in the grain of the wood. Or, are you looking to lighten down the oak through bleaching? Either way you'll need to make sure that all protective coatings have been stripped and...

    Floor down time to stain/oil

In my opinion Hardwax Oil can sometimes be more trouble than its worth, there is a lot of small print to read and users have to be very careful in applying thin coats. Based on chemical tests that we have carried out, the product is not nearly as durable as conventional floor finishes such as...

    painting over varnish????????

I am assuming that you do not intend to remove the old varnish and that the wood you are painting is internal, that being the case the next best thing to do is clean and lightly sand the wood and apply a coat of oil based undercoat when dry this can be over coated with Satinwood. (best to try a...

    Floor down time to stain/oil

Just one question before you proceed with a Hardwax Oil, what type of timber is your floor? Hardwax Oil is not suitable for certain dark, dense timbers and can lead to disastrous results. woodfinishes1877

Best wood treatment for garden buildings

You could always try Woodshield from Smith & Rodger which is a microporous exterior finish. If you buy the clear version then you could add red and blue universal stainers to achieve purple. It is white spirit based products that is deep penetrating and offers excellent protection. One thing...

Decking - When to apply Oil

Hi Imanning, You can really apply the oil at anytime. I'd advise that you apply 1 coat allow it soak in for about 30 mins and then apply further coats. Once the oil stops being absorbed (probably 3rd coat) wait 45 mins and wipe of the excess. If you don't the surface may skin. As for the...
