One cold radiator - draining didn't fix

Yes, sounds like it is the right pipe (I presume that's the return pipe with the lockshield on it?). There's no way to know if it's the pipe or the valve, but unless your system is really really sludged up I think it's 95% chance it's the valve. Yes, best to wait until the system is...

One cold radiator - draining didn't fix

If you've closed off all the other radiators, and the hot water tank, and the radiator still doesn't get hot, then water isn't getting to it. You've bled it, so it has to be a blockage. If you can easily close the valve and the lockshield and remove the radiator then do that. Then open...

    Magnaclean vs Magnabooster

You already have a perfectly decent working Magnaclean without any leaks. Spend your £355 on something else.

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

A new PCB is pretty expensive - so I just want to eliminate other, cheaper, options before I go ahead and do that. Once I fit a new PCB if it's still the same I won't be able to return it. The pump runs as expected. When the boiler cuts off (when it thinks it has reached temperature)...

I it more efficent to have more radiators working less hard?

Insulating the loft is a no-brainer. Hot air rises and all that... It really isn't very expensive to do the loft insulation, and it will pay back within a few months. Its a DIY job. Just get down to B&Q and buy a few rolls. Or have a look around to see if there are any grants or...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

Pump is brand new. Installed when I had the whole system powerflushed a couple of months ago. A Grundfoss Alpha 2 and seems to be working well as far as I can tell. The PCB is an eBay refurbished one. I'd suspect the PCB, but the exact same thing was happening with the old PCB - which...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

So this is what I did, as suggested. System and house totally cold, after a day off in snowy weather. Turned boiler stat to minimum. Powered on the heating at 19 48. At 1951 boiler switches itself off. Return pipe is still cold to the touch. Even the hot pipe leaving the boiler is...

    New c/h pump

More likely to just need balancing. If the pump is easily isolated and removed you could take it apart (usually 4 little Allen key screws) and have a look at it. Mine was part-blocked with lumps of solid rust - but that's pretty unusual.

New Boiler needed - some basic questions ...

I'd advise getting three quotes. Maybe even four, but not more. Ask each plumber all your questions, without trying to second-guess. They're the experts. If you try and specify exactly what you want, then that's what the plumber will quote for. Much better to let them advise you. Ask...

Replacing Satchwell Electronic Timer and thermostat

So long as you can get to the wires replacing the timer is really straightforward. Once you get it open it will propably be well labelled. If you're going to replace it anyway then get a NEST or a z-wave thermostat. I did that last winter (a z-wave Secure) and now I could never imagine...

    Two cold rooms

Get a smoke match (or a cheapo joss stick will do the job) and find if there are any strong draughts. Some areas of the room will always be cooler than others so choose your layout accordingly. If you have external walls then covering them with something will help. Built in cupboards or a...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

The pump is a new Grundfos Alph 2 15-60 which apparently doesn't need bleeding. Just in case there was air in it or a blockage I disconnected it tonight and took it apart. It was clean and seemed to work perfectly. When I started the system from cold it stayed on a lot longer, but as soon...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

Yes - it worked after the new pump was fitted, for around 6 weeks. The whole system was powerflushed when the new pump was fitted, and the F&E tank was thoroughly cleaned out too. The radiators get hot evenly all over. I bled them all last week and some had air in, but now they are all full.

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

Yes it does. Exactly the same thing. It cuts out after running for 5 minutes or so, with the boiler return pipe still not very hot. Eventually the hot water does get hot. I usually run my system with hot water and radiators on together. I've tried running it on heating only. Made no...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

I don't think it's that because I had them balanced fairly recently. If the water was all going via one shortcut route I'd expect the return pipe to the boiler to get hot, but it never gets more than warm. It does sound like a circulation problem. But the pump is new. Could it be a...

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

Boiler thermostat is just a touch off maximum. The pump is on setting three, which is the highest setting.

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

Yes. All radiators. The ones nearest the flow get hot while it runs, but then the boiler cuts off before the furthest radiators are hot. Placing my hand on the return pipe to the boiler it never gets properly hot before the boiler stops

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

I have recently had the fan and PCB replaced on my boiler. Ever since then (and I don't know if it is related or just coincidence) the radiators do not get hot. The boiler is a Suprima Potterton 100L, and it is on an open-vented Y plan system with a Honeywell divertor valve and a new...

Replacement boiler qoute from British Gas

That would be my plan. Repair now and replace in Summer. Unfortunately the part I need is no longer available anywhere so will have to replace the boiler. We need a gas value 402856 for a Potterton kingfisher II CF40. Can't find anywhere that sells them
