Hello all, I remember this forum being friendly &#128522

I'm a Chartered Engineer twice over (Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a Chartered Electrical and Electronic engineer) with degrees in Engineering and Masters in Manufacturing systems. That doesn't make my DIY advice any more valuable that the people on here that left school at 15. The...

How to remove a 2 way wiring switch

Thanks for all the responses. I know it sounds strange to do, but the reason is that I don't like where the switch is situated, and I don't need it. I was planning to leave the cables in place, and place a blank cover over the top. I wasn't going to plaster it as I'd like it to be easily...

How to remove a 2 way wiring switch

I have upstairs and a downstairs hallway light. I want to remove the 2 gang 2 way switch from downstairs, just leaving the upstairs switch in place. I know that sounds like a strange thing to do, but the switch upstairs is controlled via a Lightwave remote device so I want to get rid of the...

Living Room : Filling in a Vent Hole

As Tipper said! Do you have a gas fire or an older-style boiler in the house? If so, blocking this up could be a very bad move.

Cold Radiator - Have Tried a Lot

It still sounds like a balancing issue to me. You say it works when other radiators are off, so its not a blockage. It may have been put on narrower pipe, or a longer path, when it was moved for the garage conversion. You may need to adjust other lockshields a lot more than turning them...

BTU Radiator Sizing - Does size reallllly matter..?

I'd always oversize if you can fit it into the space with it still looking good. It's great to have the house heat up nice and quickly when you get in. And double panel will shed a lot more heat a lot more quickly so is worth it. In my house, with big radiators I leave the heating off...

    Potterton Suprima L nightmare

This guide will show you the expected resistance: http://gasboilerforums.com/thermistoreadingsC-P.html I can't remember the part number but I paid around £11 for it new. If you check the manual it will have it

Potterton Suprima flashing orange/amber LED light

You can get PCBs on eBay with a 12 month guarantee, at around £70. Easy to fit as a DIY job. Takes 10 minutes and you don't need to access the flamey bits of the boiler.

    Potterton Suprima L nightmare

Does the boiler ever fire up. I haven't seen the yellow light before, but maybe that's a newer PCB. Someone else here will maybe be able to advise on that. If the light is slowly flashing green that means a call to heat, so if it doesn't fire then most likely it is the PCB again. You...

Towel rail not getting hot at top.

It does sound like air is getting in somewhere. Double check that the F&E tank has water in it - especially when cold. If not that then check the cold feed from the F&E to the system isn't blocked.

    Hot water just warm

One reason to move it would have been to make the boiler cut out earlier while he was testing it. I've done the same. He should have put it back after. In any case you should keep it at 60 or more to avoid risk of legionella developing, which is not a nice thing to be struck by.

New boiler installation - Contravention of regulations?

If you're going to fit a thermostat use the opportunity to get a z-wave or NEST one. That way you can control your heating from your phone or PC when away. You'll pay a little more, but not much. I did mine for under £60, and 10 mins of my time to fit it. If you get a NEST or similar they...

New boiler installation - Contravention of regulations?

Just pay to get one fitted. When you buy a house you expect to have some problems. If this is your biggest one then I think you've been very lucky.

Boiler cuts out before radiators get hot

UPDATE... Last night I took out the old temperature thermistor and replaced it. It was a 5 minute job. The old thermistor just clips into the return pipe to measure the hot water temperature. As soon as I removed it I could see that was the problem. The thermistor was visibly...

    Magnaclean vs Magnabooster

So long as you close off the isolation valves on either side the worst that can happen is a very slow slight leak when you put the top back on. You're over-worrying.
