Replacing Cracked Wooden Lintel with Concrete

There's only one way and that's take all the blocks out first; they don't look as if they are bonded together anyway. Get rid of the whole of the wooden lintel and start again. The concrete lintel will have no superimposed load other than the weight of the new blockwork so it's ok. Masona's...

    Someone explain a volt drop.

You can put some values in here to see the effect. I think the V drop is limited to 4% and then you increase cable size.

    loft insulation

Most ceiling joists are about 100mm which doesn't give much depth for insulation. The property I'm living in now has a trussed roof with 100mm joists. I've screwed 50 mm timber on top to give 150mm insulation between the joists before I boarded it.

My shelves fell down! Advice needed...

The old wall will most likely be plastered with lime plaster so the screws must go right through into the brick. The bricks will be laid with lime mortar so you don't want a fix in a joint. What size screws are being used? _______________________________________________ Moderator post...

    Painted paveing flags

If you don't like the fact that they're dirty, a pressure washer will make them look new. If you paint them you've got an extra maintenance job.

    Kitchen Tap low water pressure

I know he did, but I'm thinking ahead. If he's going to the expense of fitting a pump he has the chance to fit a twin impeller one & pump all the hot and cold water.

    Kitchen Tap low water pressure

I do agree with what you have said corgiman, but what sort of shower does Andy have at the moment? If he only has a gravity or electric one, he should consider fitting a twin impeller pump because it would give him the opportunity to have a proper shower.

    WC Waste

You can fit two pan connectors together but you need to remove the finned rubber coupling from the first one. In your case you will have the straight connector(without the finned rubber coupling) on the pan outlet inserted into the 90° pan connector.

    dataline dialler

That's good advice from Adam but to reformat & reinstall windows is a bit drastic here. I do think that if you download Spybot and run it you will find the problem. It's a free program & works well. Incidentally if your pc is fitted with a 56k modem it's a good idea to have a payg account with...

Another great Arnie action film with lots of imaginative killing scenes. I think he used his 'I'll be back' line in that as well as the Terminator films.

    dataline dialler

You are safe on BB if you have disconnected your 56k modem from the telephone line. The premium rate dialler can only connect through the 56k modem, so only plug it in if the BB connection is down and you want to dial up to your 56k back-up account.

You have a terrific imagination Tex but some of those are a bit messy and someone would have to clean it up. Give it a bit longer and the do-gooders from the UK may get over there and all the baddies will be let off with a few hours community service. Your idea about the guillotine in the cell...

removing a old fireplace (not so old though old-ish)

Just a bit of light humour intended Andy, but sorry to have upset you. As you say old oak is not cheap and there is not a lot about. You can get old and new oak from places like this and they may be able to advise you on staining new oak to match the old. What I would do is remove some...

    sheet insulation

I actually use a meat cleaver and run it along an aluminium straight edge. It's got the depth to cut rockwool as well as polystyrene. I cut it before I take it up to the loft as you need to unroll the stuff on the floor first. Least amount of time spent in the loft the better anyway; awful job.

I think the intention was to provide a more humane method than the electric chair but it doesn't appear to have turned out that way. The 'chair' is no good, the gas chamber is no good and now the lethal injection is no good. It looks like they may be running out of ideas?
