Building insurance advice for timber building in my garden

I thought we had been with the same inc co for the past 30+ yrs, but my disabled wife informs me The Economic was absorbed yonks ago and she moved to something called Admiral after a micro clause wording tussle with Churchill and the ombudsman. She is the lawyer of the family (ex-treasury) so I...

Building insurance advice for timber building in my garden

My substantial house stands on land that also has several types of detached outbuildings scattered over it. My building structure ins covers the house and all of my outbuildings (inc my workshop/barn) on the same policy. Strangely thought, fences are only covered if damaged by the same...

Post any old song you can think of.

One that Starmer should be made aware of before his lot give in to union demands again.

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

Belt and braces come to mind. IMO any possibility of improving safety should be adopted.

    Domestic pipe bonding question ..

I always maintain that a bonding cable should be fitted to both sides of the main stopcock. If some unsuspecting plumber goes to remove/maintain said valve, he/she could complete the circuit as they remove the valve.

    Old cars with low milage

My I interject at this point about engine wear? If everything checks out okay, take it for a run to reach full engine temperature and then gun it in 2nd gear on a straight road section and watch the rear-view mirror for any tale-tale smoke as soon as you remove your foot from the accelerator...

    Drill press upgrade

If you really do have a need for a bigger/stronger unit, look through items for sale in the Exchange & Mart and other such papers. I have a comprehensively fitted out large workshop with everything bought at bargain prices over the years from others either needing the space or businesses closing...

    Old cars with low milage

My disabled wife's garage kept Suzuki is 10yrs old from new and has not covered anywhere near 10K miles yet, but I can assure you the vehicle is kept in excellent condition with everything replaced/serviced as and when needed. What cars are you considering so that the forum can enlighten you of...

    Bay window repair

@Ben565 If that was my bay roof, I'd remove the lot and replace with a pitched tile job to match the main roof, and then fit gutter + downpipe to it. All flat roofs eventually fail but pitched tile jobs last a lifetime.

Moulded plastic covering on MDF coming off

The problem with doors covered in a foil is the manufacturer's choice of adhesive. Most of those foils are held in place by a hot adhesive process. To refix any existing foil, peel it back using a heat gun and then scrape off any remaining adhesive by the same method. IME, Elmers Probond multi...

Does anyone know what this is?

It reminds me of a tap seating reseating tool, but it is probably some type of injection nozzle.

Flue: to fill or not to fill

"I would be very interested in comments on the benefits or otherwise conferred by vermiculite as a filler in this situation" In my day, a flexible flue liner was never installed without pouring granulated vermiculite between the liner and flue way before the final top flue terminal plate was...
