Mandy is nowhere near as black as they paint him. He has a very good business head on him and IMO Starmer did well putting him in our Ambassador's role. It's just a pity his previous came back to bite him on the bum. He will be a difficult mind to replace.
You can try anything, but IMO it is always better to start afresh with clean surfaces and a new sealant of your choice. My choice would be Goldend Paste

My 1st concern would be are there pad-stones for the ends of the steels? I couldn't see any, but the whole job is so messed up it is impossible to say from the photos.
A long standing 'cleaner' for glass as used by car detailers is a liquid metal polish such as Brasso. It has a very fine abrasive suspended in the liquid and will remove any coating that is not the actual glass. A gently but persistent cleaning with that followed by a good wash with clean water...
There was, IMO, a very good and highly effective pain relief, Coproxamol (dextropropoxyphene), but it was withdrawn because of fears of overdose by grateful patients.
