    merlin gerin contactor problem

Agree with above, you need to check coil operating voltage on A1 & A2, 230v on incoming contact is just waiting for the contactor coil to energise. Don't believe Odd Job Bob and the time switch is ok, it sounds like a coil supply fault to me. I have not known a MG contactor to fail so quickly so...

please help! Circuit breaker keeps tripping.

As it is not down to a specific piece of equipment you are plugging in then I can only recommend that you call in a professional who will have lots of expensive test equipment. Could be worth switching off the supply to the sockets and taking the faceplates off to see if you have any loose wires...

    TT earth help

As you have a split board with rcd protesting the sockets you can fit 30mA rcbo's to the unprotected circuits, or you can if you have room fit another rcd to protect the non rcd side. Personally I would fit the rcbo's despite the expense as it wolud only trip the faulty circuit and not all of...

What mA would you expect a 30mA RCD to trip at ?

An 30mA RCD should not operate on 1/2 dn, should operate within 200m secs on 1 dn and within 40m sec on 5 dn. As your operates on 1/2 dn then I would replace it. Have you ramp tested the rcd off load? Switch off all of the mcb's in the cu and carry out a ramp test at your load side of the rcd...

    Pat testing help

Connie, apoligies if I effended you, having just logged on, found the comments and reread your post I noticed it was a genuine question and not the usual "Numpty" post stating "its not portable", so doesn't need PAT testing. It does if its connected to a fixed installation, the COP explains it...

    Pat testing help

I would buy the Code of Practise for the in Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. It is from the IET and is what the exam is based on. From reading page 1 you would see that "anything that is plugged into or connected to a fixed electrical installation require PAT testing"...

Get some wall mounted convector heaters with inbuilt timers, can be heating up before you get there. Very good, I had them in my old house, drank the electric though.

earth bonding at main ,copper tails then plastic?

Yes it is correct, no need to bond as instalation is plastic. The small part of copper would only need bonding if it was in anyway at earth potential. Your sparky would have checked this.

Has Part P gone too far?

Not a bad price for what is a very important job, its time consuming when done correctly and highlight any potential problems of a dangerous installation. If you want to save a few quid get your mate who has done a few jobs before to do it. When one of your kids is shaking hands with the...
