New kitchen sink /tap/ hot water flow reduced, cold water

If problem is with taps it would be cheaper to replace them, as Nige implies, with ones designed for gravity fed hotwater rather than pump the HW . A lot of imports are designed for sealed systems where the HW is at mains pressure. Sheds don't tell you this so better to Plumbers Merchant who...

    Drainage problem outside house!

Two types of drainage. Storm drainage which is run off from roof, paths etc. Foul drainage which is toilet, bath & kitchen sink. Modern houses/estates should have separate systems, with storm drainage going into soakaways or streams and foul to treatment work. This is so that treatment...

Search the web. Danfoss or BG may have tables of compatability on their website. I know some suppliers do.

    Drainage problem outside house!

IF the grid is about 5 or 6 inches square and close to wall then the thing is a gully trap. Essentially this is a u bend ie it goes down and then up again and then turns to the horizontal and connects to a pipe. Essentially works like a toilet bowl trapping water. However these are designed to...

Gainsborough 9.5KW Electic Shower - Strange Problem

Sorry I didn't make it clear that the suggestions regarding stopcock and kitchen tap were to test the hypothesis that the problem was high pressure, not long term solutions. As Chrishutt says high mains pressure results in a lot of splashing at the kitchen sink. If I was a male chauvenist I...

Blocked drain.. Help..! Now with pictures. HELP

If there is a trap in the 4" pipe then it is extremely bad practice to leave it without some way of cleaning it out. When you remove the rubber bung and 40mm pipe from the end can you get your hand/arm far enough down to feel whats there? It is quite possible that the trap is partially full...

Gainsborough 9.5KW Electic Shower - Strange Problem

I'm sure these have safety devices that cut heat output in certain conditions. Don't know if that is your trouble. Before you look at pressure reducing valve try reducing the pressure by turning your stopcock in the kitchen down or run the kitchen cold tap while you operate the shower.

Connecting onto a bar shower prob

sbarb wrote Perhaps the smaller end is 15mm outside diameter, same as a 15mm copper pipe in which case they could be connected by soldered or compression coulper to the 15mm feed pipes.

Blocked drain.. Help..! Now with pictures. HELP

I've seen traps (15 yrs ago) where the kitchen sink waste pipe goes down the inside of the wall into a pipe integral with the gully. However these were specially designed items and had the trap part outside with the usual square grill so that u bend could be cleared. Tried to see if anything...

fitting bath taps to roll top bath

For baths with taps along the side against the wall: Before putting bath into position fit taps and pipework along the back and half way across the top end using soldered or compression elbows. Put bath in position and join pipework to pipes in floor. Test pipework and joints to taps well...

    Expansion Tank Overflowing

JohnD wrote I think he meant to typepumpnot tank but he is correct in that the flow thru the split may be slowed or even reversed when the pump is running. If a HWST is has a lower water level than an F&E tank flow will always be towards the HWST but it may not over flow and be picked op...

    boiler cycling every 2 mins

MY system is a pegler but I assume that they are all much the same. What should happen is that both valves are closed when when stats are satisfied and if valves are both working properly no power should be getting to the pump/boiler. But it is, so the problem is one or more faulty valves...

pump stays on when programmer off

Sorry I don't know much about different types of boilers. The wiring diagram that camr with my controls showed permanent live to boiler if required. I assume some modern boilers require power all the time to work the electronics etc. Mine is a simple oil fired one and only needs power...

    Expansion Tank Overflowing

Just clarify something for me. You talked in your first post about the relative levels of the tanks. Was that the level of the bottom of the tanks or the level of the water in the tanks when the ballcocks close? If it is the latter then my first reply is incorrect. The head (pressure) in...

    Heating oil damage?

I've used expanded polystyrene to form openings/voids in concrete walls and floor slabs. The way they are sometimes removed is to pour petrol on them. Dissolves the foam very quickly. Despite DPMembranes if kerosene comes into contact with exp polystyrene I think the effect will be the same.

    Removal of Kitchen Mixer Tap

Trace back from the tap body along each pipe until you come to a joint. What type of joint is it? Soldered, compression or plastic pushfit type. If soldered joint the easiest solution is to turn off water and cut through the pipes just before the joint (ie on the side away fro the taps) with...

    Expansion Tank Overflowing

I think you have put your finger on the problem. Check as follows for your arrangement. Tie up the ballcock in your hot water tank. Drain a few inches of water out of this through your bathroom taps. Measure the level of the water from top of tank. Run the boiler on HW setting...

    Ticking noise in Airing Cupboard

Noises like this can be due to pipes expanding and contracting as they heat up and cool down. Look and see, if possible, how pipes are held in position. You may find that the notches in the ceiling joists are too tight and restricting movement.
