Clearance for electrical and plumbing? Is this idea workable?

That is a curious problem. Why would turning it around change the drainage? I wouldn't have thought that would change anything assuming that the drain underneath the bath is sloped down enough.

Clearance for electrical and plumbing? Is this idea workable?

Right, I made a somewhat modified drawing that shows approximately where the drain from the boiler goes. I'm sure it could be moved slightly so that it goes through the ceiling and behind my imaginary boxing and still have plenty of room to run straight. So, if it's fairly trivial to change the...

Clearance for electrical and plumbing? Is this idea workable?

@Madrab The boiler is in the loft just outside of where the bathroom door is. I don't remember now if the previous one simply didn't have a drain, but we wanted this one to join up to the drain from the bath because the soil stack (right term?) on the outside of the house wasn't accessible from...

Clearance for electrical and plumbing? Is this idea workable?

@oldbutnotdead The toilet backs on to the external wall of the house, so noise isn't too much of a problem. How much vertical space do you need so that you get adequate fall? @Madrab I know that it's the normal way to do it, but is it essential? I've seen a few baths or even "shower baths" that...

Clearance for electrical and plumbing? Is this idea workable?

Some more stupid questions. I'm thinking about different ideas for a bathroom remodel and I want to swap the taps to the other end of the bath and mount them and the shower on the wall. My idea is to box in the area from the top of the bath to the ceiling to put the plumbing in, because the...

    How sturdy are acrylic baths?

Ah, I have been looking in the wrong places. The usual DIY places only had acrylic ones that I could see in that size. @JimCrow I will hire someone to do the work. The person I have in mind came to have a look last year but of course everything went on hold, and in the meantime I've decided...

    How sturdy are acrylic baths?

1600 is the maximum. I'd like to leave enough room to put up some boxing so that I can have the taps and shower head wall mounted, which there isn't a way to do at present because the walls at either end are brick or an oddly thin affair (looks like the interior of a cheap door from the top)...

    How sturdy are acrylic baths?

I haven't been able to find a steel one the right size. New ones all seem to be a bit too long for the space. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places?

    How sturdy are acrylic baths?

How sturdy are modern acrylic baths, generally? I'm planning a bathroom revamp and I need a shorter bath to fit in the space, but so far all the ones I've found that will fit are acrylic. I've had acrylic baths before that felt very flimsy and flexed a lot, but do newer and better quality baths...

Advice on stopcock replacement & garden tap

Cool, thanks. Sounds like it wouldn't be too much extra hassle & cost. I am ok with a lot of DIY stuff but plumbing is not my forté. The stop tap is undoubtedly siezed up as I avoid turning the water off because it's such a pain! A lever a bit higher up would be much easier to deal with...

Advice on stopcock replacement & garden tap

I was hoping to get some general advice for some work I'm planning to have done. I'd like to have a good plan of what I want before I start getting quotes. I want to replace the bathroom suite soon. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen and the pipes go from under the kitchen sink and up...

Cold closet with air brick inside -- can I insulate it somehow?

I don't think it's blocked as there is a cold draft inside the closet. I was thinking that the mold was the result of the cold air coming in but there not being any real circulation in there.

Cold closet with air brick inside -- can I insulate it somehow?

My house is a 1950s brick semi-detached, with plaster directly on the brick. There are a few air bricks (right term?) around the house, including one that is inside a closet on the upstairs outside corner of the house. As you might imagine, this closet is always cold and has a tendency to grow...

    Cracked roof felt

Hmm, I was following the instructions that came with the shed. It's the first time I have put such a thing together. I could remove the roof itself but now that the felt has been warmed up and squidged onto the roof piece I don't think I could take it off without removing it. I am pondering...

    Cracked roof felt

So the tube of stuff I intended to use was no good, and I didn't want to go out to get more. But I realised that the felt is flexible when warm so I took the roof off, cut a patch of leftover felt to go under the tear, and used a hair dryer to warm it up until I could smoosh it back together. It...

    Cracked roof felt

Another one from the "I'm an idiot" files: I bought a tiny shed/garden store with a little felt roof. The instructions said to fold the roof felt over the edges of the roof panel and nail down on the underside, with no specific instructions on how to do the corners. So I tried to use my sewing...
