Why not try upvc vertical sliders perfect for your type of property,designed to look and work like original sash windows but with all the benefits of pvc and double glazing.
Bit more expensive than standard casement pvc windows but worth it for what you are getting.

Any door 2.5 years old, fitted and made correctly should not give you any problems during normal day to day use.
However locks do fail but there is usually a good reason ie:quality,misuse,faulty etc

Without seeing whats involved 3 days seems optimistic i would have thought 4-5 days would be more realistic.
I have seen fitters put more in 1 day, never heard any drills or seen any spirit levels though (bish bosh):(
A lot of fitters seem more interested in making money than...
Try any local upvc window manufacturer company expect to pay between £5-£10 for a set.
You may have to fit them in the sashes if you do not have enough room in the head of the frame.

Its a common mis-conception that double glazing stops condensation,in some cases it can actually make it worse.

Not an easy job to do in aluminum doors.
aluminium doors are usually built around the glass,not impossible to do but definatley not your average diy job :)

your idea is ok, or you could put timber either side to balance it out rather than one big piece down one side and then cover with upvc architrave:)
Yes you need to de-glaze side panel and screw into brickwork or screw bracket to side and then fix to wall,Deglazing is a neater...

Sounds like the glass in your windows has not been packed or toe & heeled properly.
A good fitter should be able to sort it. :)
Main problem is trying to find one :wink:

would suggest you fit a drip mould or try and cut a channel into the existing cill,otherwise the rain will still run back towards the building(capillary action)

If i am reading your message correctly,you need to sit window back approx 10mm from front of brick work,this allows you get a silicone seal on the outside and a decent overhang for your external sill.

Drainage slots/holes are usually done at the time of maufacturing,sometimes they are missed of so have to be done on site.Upvc profiles are chambered so you have to know where to drill for the drainage to work.

Would take to long list all the things that could potential go wrong and what to watch out for.
Kommerling profile is one of the better ones although there is not a great deal of difference these days.
Correct installation is very important,most problems caused by bad fitting...
I assume you mean glass panes, you need a stanley knife, take blade out of knife hold against glass at slight angle and scrap of silicone.
