Wood burner and heat activated fan

It is closed off, but the heat can still get partially trapped and sucked into the wall cavity? or do you think that our set up is the best it could be and any alternations - smaller stove / larger gap around would be pointless? Appreciate your feedback!

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Yes I understand the heat / smoke exiting the stove needs to escape. But the heat emitted from the stoves hot surface exterior is also likely getting lost / trapped due to the tight space in which the stove has been fitted? As hot air rises and there’s just a tiny space for the heat to...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

The main conclusion drawn from the feedback is not to increase the spacing around the stove JUST to get a fan. It’s more about increasing the air space around the stove to allow the heat emitted to have somewhere else to go, I.e out into the room, instead of directly up and out of the chimney...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Sorry! Your messsges are confusing me I probs should have had my partner start this forum. I will ask him to read your messages. The chimney breast is mostly within the wall cavity and sticking out of the house exterior. We don’t have a chimney breast visible in the room the wall is flat all...

Good point not sure on that one! Could be either!

Wood burner and heat activated fan

My father and sister in law have them, it’s not like WOW heat, but it does make the heat circulate a little better without it just rising. So while the room doesn’t get hotter, it does get warmer quicker in the points of the room furthest away IMO!

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Thank you! 11” seems a decent amount. I’ll mentioned that to the fitter and see if it’s possible ti keep our current stove and make the gap big enough to have that space or alternatively increase space but also get a smaller stove installed instead! Thanks so much!

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Oh no this is the final thing lol. It’s really windy today. I can hear a lot of wind travelling down the flue - is that normal?

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Final thing! Based on my current set up do you guys have any photos of what would be a suitable set up in terms of space surrounding the wood burner? I will send photos to the installer and say that’s what I want for efficiency and to avoid losing heat emitted from the stove up the chimney...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

That’s really good to know. I thought initially the lack of heat being brought into the room was due to the room size but as you can see the lounge isn’t that big really so should heat up, even though there’s an open plan dining room attached. It MUST be because the stove is too big / opening...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Ok so conclusion… I’ve contacted the installer to come out in the new year to go through options. They are to either replace Allure 5 with 4 (smaller version) to increase space around the stove (but first to check that a fan will be able to fit comfortably on top!) keeping the current...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

@Mr Chibs i previously posted the dimensions of the stove we have and the smaller version but here again! I think the output of heat is similar just the inside volume is bigger on allure 5. Getting a smaller burner might not be an option financially it depends if we can sell ours and replace...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Nope no work has been complete yet, the fireplace was installed about 10 months ago, I’ve contacted the company and have asked them to come out to look at our options to increase efficiency. We could increase the top gap a lot if we reduce the size of the wood burner, otherwise it might not be...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Thank you! I am thinking the same, so to remove the surround, increase the hole (just the space above) the gap can’t be increased widthways as it’s inline with the chimney breast and install a new mantle. Meaning it would be something like this? But potentially with a larger gap if we replace...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Of course we have radiators and gas, but a wood burner is not just an ornament as you kindly suggest. Its purpose is to heat the surrounding area, yes not the entire home but the room in which it is placed. My questions are around efficiency, do you have any insight?

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Would this type of thing be a better set up? So basically remove our surround which isn’t very tall and increase the height of the space and get a wood mantle instead? So we could have a fan above? Or if not possible smaller wood burner to increase space above. I believe the surround could be...

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Here’s the floor plan? Does that help lol. The space is big if you take into account the joining dining room which is open plan (open archway wall).

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Thanks! That’s very true. Would getting a smaller be better in that case? The hearth can’t be increased it would be a case or completely removing the fireplace surround and replacing with new hearth and mantle I think xx

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Yeah we might need to if more heat comes out and up. Currently the stone mantle is protecting the TV the underneath gets warm but the top of it is really cool and hardly warm at all!

Wood burner and heat activated fan

Thank you. I will contact the installer and ask them to bring the stove out of the surround as much as they think possible to see if that helps. That would probably be a good place to start anyway wouldn’t it instead of selling the stove and getting a new smaller one.
