    Ventilation for loft conversion

Hi, I am currently in the planning stage of of enhancing an old loft conversion (better insulation, reinforced floor beams etc). At the moment air whistles up through the floorboards via the eves. This of course needs to be sealed off if the loft is to become fully habitable but I am conscious...

    I am you're quite right :)

    Low Water Pressure

You're not getting me. Your pressure is coming from your 165l accumulator which is not only feeding your hot water tank but also the cold to your shower(s) ?. So for just one mixer shower you will indeed be using the full 16l/m from the accumulator which will run out in just 10 mins and the...

    Gaps between Kingspan/cellotex

Boom !! I didn't know about insulation foam - nice one.

    Gaps between Kingspan/cellotex

I have an expanding foam gun (cheapo B&Q jobby) and have been using it around the house. Is it me or do these things expand at a incredible rate of knots and instantly fill anything in milliseconds and carry on expanding for ages afterwards ??. So what the technique here to avoid it going...

Things That Go Bang in the Night!

Happened to me years back. Would regularly get a bang in the kitchen and the CU tripped. Isolated it to a dishwasher so we replaced it. Only for it to happen again - it was the plug socket that the dishwasher was plugged into - it had a loose connection :(

    Low Water Pressure

ok 3. You need to ensure that your hot & cold to the mixer are the same pressure / flow or it wont work - how do you propose to ensure this ? 4. You can if you feed your unvented from the accumulator. However, the accumulator needs to be big enough to service your unvented cylinder and the cold...

    Low Water Pressure

I see in newer threads of yours that you're going down the accumulator route ? - that's fine if so but be carfeful. How many litres per min are you hoping for out of it ? And are you still using it for two leccy showers and an unvented cylinder ?

    Rafter insulation pointless?

If you're not bothered about insulating the room then why even bother to put any back in ?

    Rafter insulation pointless?

ok, so you could have an issue with condensation as you should have a minimum 50mm air gap with that type of membrane.

    Rafter insulation pointless?

If it is breathable membrane then its fine I believe as there will be no requirement for an air gap. If you're not bothered about heating or protecting your loft from the cold and your joist insulation is sufficient then it is indeed pointless.

    Hello all - intro

Indeed, I'm a techie so I'm ok with all of this. So whats the next step with your setup ? where are you going next ?

    Hello all - intro

Now this is not my thread so having to respond to you here is not good news to be honest :( So, for the final time - before I had no such system - nothing !! so this is better than before - much better. Before I wasn't protected and now I am. I don't want wires going through this old house of...

    Hello all - intro

Sounds great - well done with the Raspberry Pi etc. My post here might be of interest to you :- https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/my-smart-alarm-journey.510432/ I got a bit of stick from the experts but it works great for me :)

Yes, make sure its big enough and give priority to your showers.

    Low Water Pressure

Unvented + accumulator = lots of money. Fair one if you've got the cash and the spare floor space but a large loft tank + pump is a much cheaper solution to boost & protect your cold water flow for your existing leccy showers. If you do go for the accumulator and then go for unvented in the...

    Low Water Pressure

You referring to CWT size ? then you need to do some calcs in terms of litres per sec output from your shower(s) and then take into consideration CWT re-fill rate whilst you're using it etc

    Low Water Pressure

An accumulator will do it but I do know that installing a large accumulator will be far more expensive than a pump + cwt combination - looked into this too myself. Also you need to oversize your accumulator as it contains a lot of air. Again as an absolute minimum it would be a new CWT + pump...

    Low Water Pressure

A stop gap could be a large CWT in the loft feeding one or two electric showers (not mixers) via gravity. This may be enough pressure on its own but if not you need to either pump it using a single impeller pump or have a leccy shower with an integral pump (ie power shower type thing). I say...

    Low Water Pressure

My old cwt was about that size but it was only about 80l. I recently went through the whole water pressure / showers malarky and looked into this in detail and 80l would last about 5 - 7 mins pumped to a mixer before it ran out. I actually ended up with a 210l unvented indirect cylinder which...
