New heating install, and a rewire...

I would say sametime. The sparky will then provide leccy exactly where plumber needs it. This is what we did when we rewired and installed a new CH system into our previous house.

New combi - do I need weather comp or stick with Hive?

You have said this before and it is not true. Whilst Hive is not Opentherm compatible it does have other TPI related energy saving features which others do not. Also spending a couple of hundred quid which would probably take decades to recoup is nuts. Stick with Hive and focus on your schedule...

Strengthen attic joists to support heavy items.

I am in a similar situation. Our loft rooms (they have been rooms for over a hundred years) are fully boarded, have windows, lighting etc and are actually historically classed as bedrooms. However, the floor joists are only 3 x 2 across span of approx 3.5 metres. I cant increase the height of...

Went with sealed and haven't looked back. System is more efficient, heats up faster and now my loft is free of tanks full of water :)

Put a lightweight roof on it - we have a very similar wood framed conservatory and are looking into doing just that. Should sort the heat issues.

    Tank or damp proof wall

Easy. Probably from a leaking gutter, toilet, pipe, condensation etc etc. The source of the damp needs to be fixed rather than managed.

pH level too high in central heating system

Fernox MB-1 originally (same as F1 apparently) and then topped up with Adey MC1 last year, I understand that the system needs topping up regularly. I have been testing with some litmus paper. The reason I am concerned is that on some of the cast iron rads I have noticed a small amount crusty...

pH level too high in central heating system

Also, see response below when I contacted them :- Hi Mark, Industry standards vary slightly from one company to another, but as a guide, it is recommended that the system water should be maintained between a pH of min 6.5 & 8.5 max to prevent system corrosion. Each whole pH value below or above...

pH level too high in central heating system

From the website :- No caustic/corrosive/acidic plumbing compounds or liquids are to be used on or in any part of our radiators, our valves or connections including aggressive flushing agents. If required, the system should be flushed with clean water only. The water in the system must be...

pH level too high in central heating system

Hi all, I had some large cast iron rads installed a couple of years ago. I know they are very sensitive to corrosion etc and so I ensured that the system was treated with plenty of inhibitor. Just to make sure all is well I have tested the system and the pH has come out at 9 which is too high...

    Insulating a 1930s semi

I used 50mm insulated plasterboard dot and dabbed directly onto all external walls in an 1880s house. Not had a single problem, toasty and quiet.

Insulating Below Ceiling In Loft Conversion

I've just been doing the same with my ceilings for the same reasons. However I have used 100mm Rockwool RW3 instead which also gives good sound as well as thermal insulation. Certainly a lot easier to fit and cheaper too probably.
