Concerned about BCO’s advice (floor insulation install)

So your floor joists are only 95mm ?

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

Hi, I would certainly suggest that you need to something more than double boarding but I'm no specialist. I would suggest that you create a brand new thread in here with the same text and you should get some constructive replies.

    Different temperature for different room?

Maybe you need to balance your rads - is this rad near the end of the heating chain ?

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

@SFK You seem to know your onions - what do you think about this question I have (unanswered from another thread). Regarding insulating my roof :- I don't have any membrane at all or any insulation between and the tiles are open tiles (ie plenty of air gaps for ventilation). So I am going...

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

@SFK Yeah I get it. Maybe I should wait until I have sistered the floor joists before having the ceilings downstairs done - if at all. To be clear the loft rooms are already "done" ie already official rooms with some insulation + dormers windows etc. The house is a 1820s property and they have...

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

@SFK Yep just trying to do the best I can - I realise that I will not eliminate all noise but as I say - only got one chance to get this right :) For the soundboards, the loft floor does need re-enforcing as it's currently only 3x2 and that is planned for next year too with extra joists. I do...

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

Hi, not lifted floor yet but will be doing next year. I am not removing any ceiling - simply overboarding.

    Insulating roof space

Use PIR board. If you have a non breathable membrane (likely) you must leave 50mm gap between the PIR and the membrane to prevent condensation issues. When insulating the eves do not block airflow to this 50mm gap.

Moisture settling on purlin causing damp. Common causes?

How deep are your rafters ? and what thickness of PIR board has been installed ?. Also, is the plasterboard backed with insulation and how thick is this ? Lastly, does your roof have a membrane ? - if so, is it a breathable membrane ? Sorry, a few q's here - just need to ascertain what is...

    Acoustic plasterboard ?

Hi, some advice would be appreciated here. We are looking at overboarding the upstairs ceilings. Now, as the loft rooms are in use we also want to reduce sound transmission between the upstairs rooms and the loft rooms. My question is - is it worth spending a little extra to use acoustic...

    Loft conversion issues

Hi, how did you achieve this ?, is the floor simply insulated with mineral wool ? or are the floor voids sealed off from the eves ? or both ? Cheers.

    Damp painted external brick wall

Just use a wire brush to remove all of the loose stuff. Anything that stays behind is sound. Then re-point (you can do it yourself easily) and then paint with 2 coats of a decent breathable external masonry paint. Did exactly that with a previous house of mine :)

Recently had my heating pressurised ....

..... but cant remember what the pressure should be. It sits at 1 bar when cold and goes up to 2 bar when running. Is this correct ? or do I have to adjust it ? Gas central heating using a system boiler and recently pressurised. Thank you.

    Ventilation for loft conversion

The floor beams are only 3x2 across 3m spans :O . They've survived this long without issue but I want to do something about it whilst the floor boards are up etc.

    Ventilation for loft conversion

Most of it is non compliant anyway due to its age etc. I am just making some small improvements which will still leave some elements non compliant. For that reason I will not be seeking BC approval. Yes there are side walls - I was hoping to make the areas behind them available for storage etc...

    New Megoflo Installation

ok nice one. But wont they all depend upon the same mains water pressure ?

    New Megoflo Installation

Absolutely, a megaflow is a complete waste of time with a combi. @nkhan please respond to this - what do you need the megaflow for ?

    Ventilation for loft conversion

I don't need an air gap apparently as there is no membrane but a small gap has been recommended. Purlin walls ? you mean leave the space behind them un-insulated ? Its already a habitable room - its an 1820s house and the loft used to be servants quarters :)
