No belts on most dishwashers that I know of. Perhaps you can post a model number and what is giving you the trouble. :)

Easy enough to find out. Pull the washer away from the wall and then lean in back against the wall. Check underneath the washer (with a flashlight and mirror if nessasary). You will be a able to see both belts from here. Before you replace them or one make sure the pulleys turn freely. If...

If your dishwasher is filling with water while the dishwasher is off, it sounds like you have a bad water valve. It must have sediment in it stopping it from closing properly.

The only help I can offer is to check the tech sheet that came with your dishwasher. It will give you diagnostic precedures to assist in troubleshooting. It should be located behind the kick panel. Of course if you have done this already, ignore the above statement.

Is the motor running or trying to run when the washer is supposed to be draining? If so, check that drain hose for kinks or blockage. There should be a good flow of water coming out of the hose during the drain mode. If your washer is dead and no motor is running, check for a bad lid switch.

Does the hot water keep filling even when the washer is off or unplugged? If so, it sounds like the hot water side of the valve is bad and you'll have to replace it. If sediment gets inside the valve it can no longer shut properly leading to it leak inside the washer. If the water does stop...

I would check into the water level switch. This switch is responsible for shuting off the water at the desired level and then switching the the power to run the motor. You may have a crack in the air tube thats connected to the switch or it may not be connected at all.

I would fix the leak and then check to see how it runs. You have to fix the leak anyway, so for me, one thing at a time. If you need help disassembling your washer, you'll need to post a model number. It could be the pump leaking which is pretty common.

A couple of things you can check for: Make sure the water supply hoses are not kinked. Also, check the filter screen at the water valve to make sure it is not clogged with sediment that would stop the flow of water. Failing that, you will have to replace the valve.

Assuming this is a top load washer and your motor is running but nothing is spinning, I would check the belt out.

Do you hear the motor running at all when its supposed to spin? If not, I would check out the lid switch first.
