More than likely the mechanism that's knackered. If you can, take the mechanism out of the door and look at the rear of the gearing case. A common problem is part of the gearing tearing through the rear of the casing, causing it to jam. Forcing the handle down gets it back into the casing, but...

Is there a rubber gasket on the frame? It sounds like there is too much pressure on the glass - too thick for the frame.

If it's working with the key, then the multi-point is fine - the problem is in the handles. Either buy a new set, or dismantle the existing ones and see if you can repair them.

Can you upload a picture of the handles, one of the mechanism, and one showing both doors closed.

The mechanism isn't shown on the uploaded pics, but looking at the frame strike that is pictured (roller keep) - it's not going to be a high security model. The doors look more like room dividers than external doors. Are there handles on both the inside and outside ?.

Can you post a picture of the doors and handle, or a link to a similar set on the net?

If it works fine when the door is opened, then the mechanism isn't in-line with the frame strikes. Either the door needs adjusting, or the frame strikes need removing and re-positioning. If it's the same when the door is opened, then its a fair chance the mechanism is faulty and needs replacing.

If its the same when the door is open, and the cylinder is fine out of the door, then it would appear the mechanism could be a little stiff and require lubrication. Remove the mechanism and ensure no rubbish has fallen behind it - restricting the movement. Oil it and work the mechanism up/down...

When you lock the door with the key, lift the handle at the same time. If this eases the bolt throw, then the problem is in the allignment of the mechanism and frame keeps - ie they need adjusting.
