42 amp supply to 16 amp socket would you pass it with inspection and testing?

They do exist, generally refered to as single pole-switched neutral (SPSN). Its much more common in RCBOs than MCBs, with many makes of the 'compact' MCBs such as Wylex, Fusebox and Niglon being SPSN, but often erroniously refered to as 'Double Pole' even sometimes on the manufacturers marketing...

Excel formula to calculate electricity bill

Sum is used to find the sum of figures in a given range of cells with the references of the diagonal corners separated by a colon, e.g. =Sum(A1:A10) or =Sum(A1:B:10) or Sum=($A$1:C10) for example. It seemed to make no sense in your example, so I opened excel and tried a few things, and it seems...

Need new replacent (light switch like pic) (Ed.)

That looks like MEM SPECTRA to me probably 20-25 years old, its been discontinued, it looks like these people have new old stock 3 gang cover plates for it: https://www.radwell.co.uk/Buy/EATON%20CORPORATION/MEM/M803 at a slight premium, but TBH changing the whole grid arrangement is not going to...

    Changing a light fitting

And personally, I wouldn't try and get three earths and two neutrals into that cheapo connector block thats fixed close to the edge, while holding it close to the ceiling and being constrained by the length of the cables from the ceiling (which admittedly in your case in not too bad) I'd fit...

Garage conversion - air gap and electrics.

If clipping the cables to the masonary behind keeps them clear of the insulation, and running them through the studs would not, then the former is the thing to do. As to plasterboard boxes on insulated plasterboard, you'll find you'd struggle to open the clips, youd have to hack out the...

    Starter for a fly zapper

From here: https://www.lampshoponline.com/series-starter-4-22w.html I'm assuming his flyzapper has two tubes because what he has certainly appears to be a series starter and the part code FLS-2 would seem to suggest its an FS2 type as would the wattage of 4-22w which they all seem to be...

    Starter for a fly zapper

You need a FS2 starter (also known as a series starter), rather than the "FSU" one you have https://cpc.farnell.com/british-general/fs2/fs2-4-22w-fluorescent-starter/dp/LA02331

    External light wire gauge

Theres a labelled drawing on that side about 2/3 of the way down that has a label pointing to the back of the fitting with the label "Power supply - Stable and durable" So I would assume there is some kind of DC to DC converter in there, and as they are nomally self regulating then if the supply...

Time for tariff rate change, is it always UTC?

I think it would have probably been better to stick to just GMT, when you get agile prices on clock changing days, depending on the season you either get two extra (with repeats) or two fewer. On at least one of these occasion I had issues with my zappi not pulling in for a period after the...

What material to tidy up this job

Replace patress with a conduit entry one and fit 20mm white plastic conduit, two female adapaters, and saddles as required. If you want to keep the exposed twin (why?) then replace patress with the same type and take the knockout out properly - cut each side of the section you want to remove...

    Daft Bugger

I've had some strange co-incidences,remember I once went to a housing association job (I think) once, and I'm struggling to remember the exact issue, but I think it was something like the living room lights smell of burning and they were some brass things with cloudly glass panels... only it...

    Redundant smoke alarms

Its frightening isn't it, remember that its two decades now since the new colours came in, I referred to a cirucit as something like '6-Yellow' the other day and got a WTF look from the final year apprentice, and had to explain about the old phase colours, and then I had the realisation that he...

    Redundant smoke alarms

No where as near as bad as the firex smokes though - now they really did yellow something chronic! I wonder if anyone has ever tried to convince an apprentice that the older Tan coloured Merlin Gerin boards (pre 2004 ish) were once the magnolia colour of the newer merlins and the current...

    Replacing a 32A type B RCD

I thought it fed an EVSE? But how are you going to isolate it from the incomming electricity supply? Possibly - but err, not really; I've just looked more closely, they looked to be bigger than that, so I didnt look too closely, but now see that they are 4mm singles in pvc oversleeve, which...

    Replacing a 32A type B RCD

Type B RCD is a little misleading - Thats a double pole RCBO, the RCD part of which is type A, and the Overucrrent part is a Type B/B curve 32A. How have you proved that it is faulty?
