Squeaky flying joint in chipboard: no access, no noggin

great idea. Thank you. I've just been investingating further and some of the boards aren't even screwed to the joists. More fun, drilling my inspection holes - found my plastic water pipes. after changing my pants I figured with a metal wire they were deep enough not to get hit by a rogue scew...

Squeaky flying joint in chipboard: no access, no noggin

Hi. Thinking hats at the ready.. The chipboard flooring in an upstairs room is squeaking badly. The only options I can think of are...

Can you oversize an electric element for a towel rail?

Hi, I'm buying a dual fuel towel rail. The 600w element is the same price as the 1000w element. Both will fit inside the height of the towel rail. Both are thermostatic too. The old element is a 600w but can you oversize? I'm tempted to buy the 1000w.

How to convert Mira shower wall water outlet to Bathstore pls?

Thanks Rob. Yes, my outlet is about 1m off the ground and looks like things will fit. But I really don't fancy opening up all the tiling to add the fitting on. Good to know that's what would be need though..really appreciated.

How to convert Mira shower wall water outlet to Bathstore pls?

my bad. This is what the mira system looks like, pushes onto the copper pipe and secures onto the wall. My pipe is grouted in. This is the instructions for the shower I'm considering, page 3 shows just to screw the bolt into the existing fitting, which appears to be behind or flush with the...

How to convert Mira shower wall water outlet to Bathstore pls?

Hi, Please can you help me know if I can convert a Mira shower outlet to another make? I have a Mira shower with a mixer panel and a separate water outlet from the wall. I've taken the outlet apart and it's basically a bit of copper pipe sticking out of the grout. The MIRA system pushes onto it...

Leaking soldered elbow - cut off and replace?

Thanks. After 2 years the NHBC only covers structure - walls etc, floor and some double glazing. Only concern with plastic is its lifetime and reliance on a ring of teeth holding the end of the pipe in. My water pressure can be very high and I've got a regulator on the incoming pipe at 3-4...

Leaking soldered elbow - cut off and replace?

Thanks Dan. Just realised my major issue with push fit - I doubt I can get a pipe cutter in to cleanly remove the soldered joint. It's between 2 uprights n the middle of a studwall. Also - leak appears to be a pinhole in the copper elbow. This is a 2006 house so hopefully not thinwall 70's...

Leaking soldered elbow - cut off and replace?

Hi experts - really need some advice on my issue. Wife heard a hissing noise and the carpet all wet. Had no water for last 48hrs and after ripping a hole in the wall I've found a soldered elbow leaking on the underside, it goes about 10cm off the floor beneath the bath and up to shower. :(...

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

ban-all-sheds 8) Did you mean this ?: " I was going to say that your problem stems from the previous occupant being an idiot and fiddling with electrics when he didn't have a FC what he was doing. But then I read this. vice wrote: Could I connect the earth to the neutral to check all is...

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

I've connected up the earth that exists in the main power carrying 3 core cable. I've used the earth from the 3 core switching wire to connect an earth from the switch to the earth in the loft. The switch needs an earth though not the lights it is switching.

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

there an no earths connected. The live and return of the four spots are wired into 2 of the rose terminals, the returns connected with the circuit and one of the terminal connecting the live in and the switching across to the live of the lights.

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

the plastic switch connects up to a rose in the loft to which 4 halogen spotlights are connected. The rose is connected off the lighting circuit in the loft. The switch worked fine. All other upstairs lights are spots, some low voltage some main. None requiring an earth so this is the first one...

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

Doesn't make sense to me either. I've connected up an earth in a light that previously wasn't connected, to change a plastic switch to a metal one. I used the earth present in the switching wire already in use, the earth not being connected at either end previously. I get a connection...

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

sorry. Yes,, of course a connection won't trip anything since they are switch wires not a live and neutral. The resistance is very odd though. Being the size it is it seems to be connected but massively inhibited. Stumped.

:( is my lighting earth earthed or not?? :(

Hi. I'm installing some metal light switches. One box is plastic and doesn't have it's earth connected so I double checked that it's other end was connected . It wasn't so I've connected it into my lighting circuit in the roof. Sounds fine eh. But.. if I use an multitester to check the...
