Hello, As mentioned in another thread I had an extension built in 2011 and have a NICEIC domestic electrical installation certificate. Which was given to building control and then I received a building control completion certificate for the extension. Someone's comment about my certificate...

No the cable was part of the new works. It got damaged after installation but before testing for the certificate.

I have an approved contractor NICEIC certificate. An electrician cannot sub-contract jobs? He has to be there himself 100% of the time to be allowed to issue the certificate? A company cannot have more than one electrician completing a job?

I was falling asleep a few months ago and a thought entered my head that surely the cable is damaged if the Rcd tripped. Before that I had forgotten about it.

He was really annoyed by it but said nothing needed doing. He was one of the better contractors and I was happy at the time.

It's doable, I guess It's the only way to know.

Thanks, so for the Rcd to trip then the drill bit must have touched one of the conductors? There is no other way the Rcd could have tripped In this situation?

Just wondering do I need to unplug/switch off everything before testing continuity? I will turn off all power but do I need to unplug appliances as well? Washing machine for example. Will any residual charges in capacitors for example affect the reading? Thanks Bob

Oh I see, if you do a continuity test can you tell from the resistance reading that connectors are maybe loose? Or is it inconclusive?

HI, What happens during an electrical inspection, is every accessory and junction boxed opened and checked? Or do they do a resistance test? There must be junction boxes under laminate flooring, sockets behind kitchen units and fitted wardrobes, etc. Bob
