    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

Just for the record..... Stripped of the old plaster at the weekend. Myself plus two helpers. We was all set up for a long day. But the wall was stripped by lunchtime! So pleased we took the plunge. We used two old SDS drills plus I bought the £49 Titan SDS 5kg drill from Screwfix which was...

    New Alarm Keypad

Thanks all for your help. I have looked at the Accenta + keypad and other comments seem to imply that it will work with an older Mini 8. Is this a DIY job? Is it just a case of disconnecting the old keypad (with the power off of course) and re wiring in the new one. How about the access...

    New Alarm Keypad

Hi secureiam Some of the buttons don't always register ie prog and set buttons or sometimes stay stuck in (if that makes sense). Key pad numbers are very faded too.

    New Alarm Keypad

Hi, We have an Accenta 8 mini burglar alarm, installed in the mid 90s. Given excellent service over the years and still works well. However the keypad is now wearing out. Can i replace it with any alarm keypad, or does it have to be an Accenta. Or does it have to be compatible with the mini...

    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

I think we are going to go for mechanical fixing. Possibly not easier or quicker. But maybe better?

    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

You are quite right Reg. It was a tricky decision! We are going to write off this winter, wait a few months then get it done in Spring. I've got a couple of helpers so hope to get the old plaster stripped in a day. Haven't decided which insulation board to go with yet but hope to get...

    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

Thanks DIYedboy You're probably right. Although part of me just wants to get on with it and use the 35mm wallboards I suppose I should start to take some of the original plaster off and see how I go. It's probably the sensible thing to do.

    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

Thanks DIYedboy. I did consider taking off the old plaster. However I know somebody up the road who tried the same thing and it was very very heavy going. The original plaster was more like concrete and it was not easy getting a flatish surface. Rightly or wrongly I am just hoping that a...

    Thermal Insulation Wall Boards

Hi, After years of suffering from a very cold hallway (late 20s end of terrace solid walls) we are going to take the plunge and fit some internal insulated wall boards. Unfortunately we do have space issues - the stairs are quite narrow as it is - and will only have about 40mm max to play...

Solid Wall Insulation - Limited Space

Thanks for your advice Jabuzzard. It' svery helpful. I will certainly look at the area under the stairs to see if I can insulate it better. Definitely going to go with 25-30 mm of insulation on the wall. Will also consider hacking off the old plaster. Can anyone advise on the best...

Conservatory on existing single storey extension

Good morning, In theory is it permissable to build a new conservatory onto the back of an existing single storey extension. The house is end of terrace. The existing extension is full width, with a depth of 2.8 metres. Grateful for any advice.

Solid Wall Insulation - Limited Space

Thank you all for your comments. Jabuzzard - I have considered hacking off the old plaster. What puts me off is the size of the wall and the almighty mess it would make. Plus the fact that the plaster in our house is rock hard. Don't know what they put in their plaster in those days but it is...

Solid Wall Insulation - Limited Space

Hu, I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that external insulation would be quite pricey. Unfortunately our budget it limited. Any idea of the cost? Average 3 bed end of terrace in S E London. Thanks

Solid Wall Insulation - Limited Space

We live in a 1920s three bed end of terrace. Walls are solid. The hall gets very cold in the winter. We made things worse when we stripped the wallpaper and re-skimmed a couple of years ago. Stairs are fairly narrow as it is so we only have about 15mm to work with. We already have a big double...

    Composite Doors

Hi, Our hall gets very cold in the winter so we are looking at having a new front door fitted. We like the look of composite doors. Am I right in thinking tese are more thermal efficient than UPVC? Are there any other issues with these doors? I am looking at the basic range of doors from...

    Render External Plywood?

Thanks for the info. I am going to be using some Marmox insulation boards (which are waterproof) on another job. Anybody know if I can render onto these? Don't want to bodge it but it would help keep costs down. Only need about 1.5 sq m. The breathable membrane only seems to come in large...

    Render External Plywood?

Hi, We want to render one of the walls of our (open) external porch. Plan is to add some insulation to the porch wall backing our living room and then re render. Question is can we render onto external ply? Or, if not, what should we use. Cheers.

    Internal insulation - solid walls.

Thanks for all your comments. Very helpful. Will give some thought to insulating floorboards and under the stairs. And tackle those draughts. Probably need to bite the bullet and up my budget. We have an old wooden door so should think about replacing that.
