Do I need this upgraded first??

Right, well they turned up at 6pm. :) I did as you guys suggested and fitted an isolator on the board with meter tails fitted, also fitted a earth block and supplied some 16mm GandY. Cups of tea offered and biscuits. :) All finished by 8pm, some of the nebiours were not to happy to miss...

Do I need this upgraded first??

Update... Well looks like a couple of you were right, it had a fused netural!! EDF are coming round tonight to replace the whole cut out and upgrade it to a 100amp supply. Which is good news. They will not supply an isolator though. :( Thanks for all the advice. Alex

Do I need this upgraded first??

OK guys, an update. I called as you suggested and said the neutral may be fused. They are coming round tomorrow morning to check (which I was quite impressed with the speed) I did ask the phone operator if I could request they fit an isolator at the same time, he seemed to think they would...

Do I need this upgraded first??

Thanks for the help so far. The ladel says the meter was changed in 1998 if that is any help regarding the netural fuse. If the main fuse is a 60A supply, will that be enough for a 5 bed house with the demands of a family of 4? If I buy the isolator, for them to conect to, can i fit this...

Your advice please. I am starting on the refurb of our house, first port of call is the old electrics. Before I(under building control) or a spark, touch anything, do i need to get the supply uprated? Pics below show the layout, the dia of the metal incoming supply seems small to say the...

Garage base - insulation, depth ,suggestions..

Thanks for that. If the cable is in conduit 750mm below ground, would i still have to use SWA, as the run will be around 35m and need to be either 10mm, or for overkill 16mm, guessing SWA 16mm is going to be very expensive. if it is the case, any suggestions where is the best place to get this...

Garage base - insulation, depth ,suggestions..

Two problems with rendered block, I can build the timber frame, would have to pay for a brickie and plasterer. Also the block would need a lot more insulation to be as warm as the 150mm frame filled with insulation.

Garage base - insulation, depth ,suggestions..

Thanks Woody. So will I have to provide plans and calcs? I was planning on a sink, using a saniflow to connect it to the sewer via the trench back to the house, is this allowed? To comply with the fire regs what could I use instead of the timber cladding, would it only have to be on the side...

Garage base - insulation, depth ,suggestions..

Thanks for that. If I go the BR's route, before I start talking to them, what part of the building regs applies to the construction, so I can look it up and base plans around this. Will it have to be to the same standard as a habitable building? Thanks Alex

Garage base - insulation, depth ,suggestions..

I am about to start to build a new detached garage at the bottom of my garden as the first stage of a general reburb of our house. The size will be 4.5m x6.5m. I am getting a man in with a digger to dig out for the base. So 3 questions. First, I am going to use the garage year round for...
