    kettle element heat control

Yes but thety are made of rubber metal, formerly known as rubber. Just in case you bang your shin and then dial 0800 "where there's a blame".

    External PIR lantern

Are you sure its broken? After being outside for the last two years we've had, being permanently soaked unless I was frozen up and then snowed on, I think I'd lose the will to live. With the power off, I'd be tempted to make sure all connections are clean, sound and tight. One of those little...

I wonder who will be grabbing all the kudos for fixing the fan from the girlfriend?? No. NO!! Don't worry about me sleeping lonely on a broken bench under the flyover. You can keep your nice warm bed to yourselves. I'm happy with my lot!

    Lighting problem / dead live

I'd go with that if wet plaster has just been slapped around it and the dimmer has been loosely attached to let the moisture "go somewhere".

    RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Had a weird one Monday mid day, in fact I had to go n lie down, couldn't take it. My left hand has, allegedly, a bit of carpal syndrome, so that always has a slight pins&needles (p&n) towards the fingers ends and outer palm edge. Anyways Monday I ended up with a blinding ache midday behind...

Electrics by the sink, a few questions

No. That is my way of thinking though. Apparently pre 14th edition or just a 'string ' measure of common sense (remember that??) As to today, 17th edition amd1 states 150mm above work surface and 300mm from the edge of sink/drainer. Or it could be the OSG or building regs for sparks. One of them.

12V halogen downlight and transformer question

I think you need a safety margin by using max 80% of the transformer output. This means you'll be looking for a 125W/VA+ transformer. Then again I could be talking out of me harris!!

    Bathroom Extractor Fan confusion!

I was wondering if there was a little bridge cable hiding behind the web. I bet someone in the past has gone in there inebriated, staggered, grabbed the cable to steady themselves and pulled the cable out.

    Bathroom Extractor Fan confusion!

And get the bloody cobwebs out of the back box and re-take a picture!!   . Preferably from a couple of angles so we get a better view of both sides of the choc block (connector) Regards new fan, The size is dictated by the hole in the wall. Then you have three types. Ones...

    socket and see tester

If they're all flashing, and the red is more of an amber, then its showing earth fault (top led is amber/red) or neutral fault (left led is red/amber). Any other combos are def something wrong with it.

Using a cooker switch to switch an under worktop plug

I know the aesthetics aren't fantastic but wouldn't a small hole hard up against the wall/tiles and feed the wash m/c cable through that, attach plug. Bob's yer Mams bro!

    Bathroom Extractor Fan confusion!

Looks to me as though at some time there was a length of flex exiting through the front of that plate and entering the fan through a knockout on the bottom.

    Cables in dry lining insulation

I'd try the conduit method, if you can get it in! Otherwise 4mm cable would give you 17.5A and 6mm cable would give you 23.5A

    Cables in dry lining insulation

I'd have said no. Its the being attached to the boards / stud work that allows it to dissipate the heat. Who's to say that your nicely cleared hole doesn't collapse back in on itself and enclose the bottom 2/3's again? Ref Method A (enclosed in conduit in an insulated wall) will push the...
