Cavity where meets windows, can it be completely foamed?

I see. What is that on the diagram behind the expanding foam? Also do I need to cover the foam itself with DPC tape to seal it before plastering?

Cavity where meets windows, can it be completely foamed?

Are you able to recommend a suitable insulation brand? Would the rigid polystyrene sheet stuff work? It claims to be water resistant. So would the DPC, which I'm assuming I'd tape over the trimmed foam, then need to be trimmed after the frames are fitted? And would I need a DPC on the inside...

Cavity where meets windows, can it be completely foamed?

Hi all. The cavity, where old window is fitted to outside skin, where the plaster is knocked back, is quite wide. Big gap where insulation is missing but there is insulation further back. I suspect the brickwork is too uneven to fit cavity closers even if I try to knock bits off and repair the...

Leak/damp in cavity area around window

Thank you Would a cavity tray be needed for two rows of bricks if there's a huge concrete lintel above the two rows which spans the whole cavity?

Leak/damp in cavity area around window

I have taken two photos from inside looking up into the cavity above the window. Looking up between the two window lintels. I believe what can be seen is the remains of some cavity wall insulation to one side, two courses of outer skin bricks and in the gap above those, what looks like a...

    Excellent idea!

Leak/damp in cavity area around window

Yes I believe you are correct that those holes in between the bricks above the large lintel are indeed weep holes as the whole estate has the same. I do wonder if there's even a gap under those though as that large concrete lintel which spans the whole width of the house is about a foot in...

Leak/damp in cavity area around window

Hi all. We are currently refurbishing 1960s house to eventually live in. After stripping wallpaper from inside walls of this window structure, we noticed the plaster which covered the cavity, at the very bottom on the left and right (circled in red) was damp and black with moisture. We've...

What is this please? (Concrete pad in ground with rectangular hole) (Ed.)

Got the breaker in there and indeed turned out to be where an old fence post stood. Now removed. Thanks all.

What is this please? (Concrete pad in ground with rectangular hole) (Ed.)

Returned home for the night, but roughly the outer concrete I'd say is probably about 250mm and the width of the inner hole maybe 80mm something like that ish? Complete estimate. May have hit the nail on the head? How wide would an opening be below that gutter down pipe for a drain etc?

What is this please? (Concrete pad in ground with rectangular hole) (Ed.)

We have removed a concrete base where an old conservatory used to stand (as in another thread) and have found this square of concrete with a gap in the centre. What is it likely to be? Could it be an old drain that we need to leave alone? Or is it something we can break up? We did intend to...

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

Which type of breaker did you use to break the original concrete up from where it came from?

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

Thank you . Well yes exactly. At the start I was just looking for solutions to stop the water and had nearly settled on an Aco drain but several possible solutions were suggested and I think self removal was the best one. Too true about needing the bigger breaker. To be honest the roofer who...

    Canopy Proposal Advice

Reading this thread with interest. Is it intended to park part of a vehicle underneath to protect from frost? Wouldn't mind something like that myself.

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

I appreciate all the input. I realise it's not a perfect project but I haven't damaged anything other than the concrete up until now. I also accept that temporarily dumping some of the rubble on soil was not ideal. But to be honest, other than a pathway, I believe the rest of the existing patio...

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

Doesn't do a lot for the confidence of a first time DIYer! I'm not going to compare myself to someone who knows what they are doing or has done this kind of thing before. How does someone start if it's not by giving it a go at their own pace? The idea was to avoid spending a few grand on it by...

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

Thank you. I have checked and the skip hire place definitely do allow commercial tippers to dump rubble there for £10 and this is where we are informed the shovel and shift it drops. At that price who wouldn't? Presumably they are reselling as processed hardcore or cement or whatever.

Old conservatory base built nearly to damp course

There is a shovel and shift it type bloke who does garden clearances etc who loads and unloads stuff like this everyday and tips at the skip place. Was given details today by another trade. The estimate we have is £160 so I assume that is not bad and we wouldn't have to handle again. What's done...
