Shower extractor fan - location of transformer

...others will probably advise too but... I installed one recently and the instructions reccomended that the transforma go above the ceiling. Just have to put it in a clear position away from insullation etc.

    WIRING POWER SOCKET

To expand on Pugwash's comment with some helpful advice: No you can't take power for sockets from the lighting circuit. You will need a seperat circuit wired back to a separate MCB in the consumer unit. You will need an electrician to do this.

    Light advice

..Ok, thanks again SC. I will use the FCU for the outside light. I need to run UV stable 1.5mm flex outside. Would you run this all the way from the FCU, (up the wall and loft etc), or use T+cpc up to the point where it goes outside in the loft. Also, does this light (as it is outside), need to...

    Light advice

Thanks space cat. There are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom in the house. If there is a ceiling light in each room and if the landing circuit is taken from the upstairs circuit, and maybe a bit for a fan and wall light in the bathroom, This adds up to about 600W on the lighting circuit. If the...

    Light advice

Sorry if I’m repetitive in any way but advice on the following 2 queries would be appreciated: 1 A fcu taken from a s/o, powers a house alarm. From this fcu someone has taken another fcu, the load side of which goes to a security light (wattage unknown). Can I take another cable from the 2nd...

    Flush to surface tip please

...gr8 thx. The dual box is a good idea. I've never fitted one. Presumably I would just need to take a bit out of the side of the current 'hole'?

    Flush to surface tip please

Someone wants an external light fitted but does not want floorboards taken up or walls chased. best option seems to be switched FCU from s/o on external wall and drill out through the back of the FCU. The s/o is set in the wall with the usual facia protruding above the surface. What’s the...

How can a shower be connected to this?

The installation is shabby. There are 2 consumer units and one semi-enclosed fuse type box with 4 fuses. I'm not sure what the total load is. The semi-enclosed is for the top floor (flat), and the 1st floor with the shower and a lodger, and the ground floor with all of the pub equipment etc are...

How can a shower be connected to this?

So, if after the addition of the design currents of all the individual circuits, allowing, where appropriate for diversity, the demand is more than 40A, the 40A for the shower cannot be installed. (as the RCCB is just 80A). Correct??? Can the RCCB be up-rated? Any other options?

How can a shower be connected to this?

My Mate (lives in a pub) has a 14-way (i think) GET CU. All MCB's are protected by the 80A RCCB. However, there are 10 MCB's comprising 3x32, 5x20, 2x16A. He also wants to connect a 8.5kW shower to it. By my calculation this would be a 40A. so, including the shower MCB, the total value would be...

    Becoming a qualified electrician

2391: You are correct, the practical exemption was stated by the college. Either way, I don't mind, i'll get there in the end. Part P: From what i've heard from lots of electricians, part P teaches them what they already know and they see it as a money-making scheme for someone. Dingbat: have...

    Becoming a qualified electrician

.. I've done a fair bit along the way (for friends and family). And when I lost my job earlier this year I took a job as a low-paid (as I had no experience) electrical contractor. As you intimate, theoretical knowledge is no substitute for doing the job. My launch into electrical work is longer...

    Becoming a qualified electrician

I’ve always worked in Purchasing (and still am), but wanted to get out of an office environment. On the whole, the level of work was very manageable for level 1+2. Assignments were on the easy side and exams were all easy multiple choice. I didn’t have to spend too much time revising or doing...
