    Becoming a qualified electrician

...forgot to say... You don't need to be working 'on the tools' (i'm not), but It helps. You need to be pretty practically orientated.

    Becoming a qualified electrician

To be self-reliant, i.e. to certificate your own work, I see this as the route (it's the one i'm taking anyway): C&G 2330 - fast track level 1 and 2 in one year: £550.00. Also took the 16th regs after a one day lesson for £50.00 as level 2 prepares you for this. C&G 2330 Level 3 - 2nd year -...

    2330 Level 3

Great, thanks Oharaf. I missed exams at school (that's another story), but have since got an HNC in Business and a Post-grad diploma in strategic management, so I'm not entirely thick. But things like trig and transposition are largely new to me. I may take you up on that offer of help! My...

    Ceiling safe zone

Would a concealed cable running in the ceiling (<50mm deep) within 150mm of the angle formed by the ceiling and the wall, be in a 'safe zone'?

    2330 Level 3

I'm planning on enrolling on 2330 Level 3 tomorrow. I'm pretty good at everything except my maths is not exceptional. Would I be able to get through Level 3 through sheer hard work or am I wasting my money being as my maths is 'average'?

    Which Pull cord for bathroom?

At the moment there are 2 cables in the ceiling. I haven't had a close look yet but I assume that one is the switch and one the loop-in. No I did not plan a fan Isolation switch. Is one required or can it just work off the light pull-cord?

    Which Pull cord for bathroom?

I expect all the live, neutral and earthing/bonding cables will go to one JB and the power to be routed from the JB to the pull cord then back to the other lives to feed the 2 lights and fan. OK?

    Which Pull cord for bathroom?

Is an ordinary 6A pull cord adequate to house the switch wire for 2 off Round Polycarbonate Fluorescent Tube 32W lights and a standard extractor fan? Does it need to be D.P. ? cheers

    Experts on bonding please help........

Thanks for the comments. I did not continue in the earlier thread as people tend not to go back to old threads and it contained differing info which I wanted to summarise for fresh comments. Going back to what you and Andy said Noz, Presumably I can connect the bond to the terminal block...

    Experts on bonding please help........

Guys, I am confused now and am looking for a consensus. If anyone can clarify I will buy them a pint if I ever meet them. I have had differing advice re the following: I am installing a shower with 10mm T+CPC. Please confirm if the bonding described below is correct: Use 4mm csa cable to...

    Shower bonding

...Just a quick one..... Obviously the copper pipe to a shower should be bonded. Is it acceptable to bond this where the pipe starts to run through the plaster (say under the bath)? Also, does the earth connector in the shower have to be bonded to anything else? Thanks

    Shower cable protection

OK, thanks Adam. I was aware of safe zones but was always told by the lecturer to use mechanical protection anyway. Obviously this is not alway practical.

    Shower cable protection

...Yes the cable will go vertically from the shower. Are you saying that it will not need any protection in this case? Thanks

    Shower cable protection

Davy, I'm unsure about the final distance from the finished surface yet. Assuming that it will be <50mm, and capping is not a suitable protection, could I ask if, and why capping is used on brick walls and then plastered over? Also, when you say that the conduit should be earthed, would the...

    Shower cable protection

Guys, I'm fitting a shower to a new studded wall. The studded wall will be fixed to a brick wall. The cable will obviously run up the gap between. The question is: Does the cable still need to be protected and is the galv capping the right stuff to use, and if so, does the capping need to be...
