    Electric Shower CCT

Local switching..... If i want to change a lamp (current using equipment) then isolation by the functional switch is adequate... If i want to repair the hoover etc then either unpluging it and removing from source is adequate... In both above instances switching off at MCB for maintenance is...

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

The over current protection device in any circuit should be rated in conjunction with the lowest rated conductor in the circuit. Ceiling rose drops wont be subject to an overload. Ive come across lighting circuit`s wired in 1.5mm with 1mm switch drops ( twin brown) and as long as the OPD is...

    Electric Shower CCT

When carrying out maintenance work on a particular piece of equipment the isolation switch is in your control....without locking off the MCB in a consumer unit situated in another part of the building how can this be in your control?

Is electrician telling me the truth?!

As is mentioned above it`s totally up to the spark doing the work whether he is happy signing off someone else`s work. If it was me i would go through your install with you marking up in chalk where you are to chase cables and backbox`s in as in kitchens a lot of the routes taken are governed...

    Earth sleeving

It all comes under Identification of conductors, if a conductor is to be used as a CPC then it should be identifiable by the colour`s green and yellow and im not 100% sure on this but i think in 3 phase systems that the use of alphanumerical identification is not allowed on cpc`s and they,like...

100mA rcd on a tt system re 17th edition

Certainly your sockets and any circuit`s entering the bathroom will have to be RCD protected to 30mA BUT if you have a lighting or other circuit that is surface mounted then because of ADS time`s not likely to be met then those circuits will have to be RCD protected to the tune of 100mA type S...

    Two RCD's or only one??

Yeah upstream RCD protection for me,then anything you add in the future will also be automatically protected. ooops by upstream i mean using an RCD in the C/UNIT in the form of either group protection or singular RCBO. Just bare in mind pond pumps can offer leaky earth current`s and on some...

    3ph Smaller neutral than phases?

Yes Plugwash its a dedicated 3ph motor so as you and Steve say its not a problem. The reason i was concerned was the same company had installed a single ph piece of machinary rated at 45amps and used 2.5mm single core cables.

Multimeter use for testing cable thicknees & ampage

unfortunately a good search is needed to follow the cable from shower to C.U but if you cant be sure then use the worse case scenario ... All relevant installation methods can be found in various publications (IEE on site guide or BS7671 16TH edition)

Multimeter use for testing cable thicknees & ampage

For testing cable gauge then a micrometer is what you need. You can buy these from places like MAPLIN or the like, i did and only use it for instances you describe when you cant be 100% sure what size cable your dealing with, although with a few years experience you`ll know a size just by first...
