    Looking for MDF Skirting

Reading it again, why do you require MDF only? Could you not use proper timber if need be. I would take a small sample to any timber yards near to you and see if they have the same. They will also be able to trim to size as required for a wee fee. Regards.

    Looking for MDF Skirting

Howdens generally have torus MDF skirting in stock, tho may be different where you are. 95mm is on the small side though. Why not trim the bottom edge of it to get it to 95mm height, if you only have a little bit to do. It is probably deeper than 14mm though but should suffice ok. Regards.

    Blowing Fuse Wire

Indeed as BAS says, whenever I rip out an old 3036 I always keep the fuse carriers. Having big hands, like I do, can make replacing the wire annoying at times!! You could change the fuses over to something like http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Images/Products/size_3/XWYB6.JPG Be aware though...

    So who are electricians?

So you are a skiver then John!! :D Apologies again! Its funny how we percieve things. Reminds of how wierd radio presenters always look after you have spent years listening to them and then finally see them. They always, but always, look massively different to the image I create of them!

    Dishwasher/Washing Machine

Never dealt with gridswitches as you have in the picture so not 100% certain. Have a look behind washer and dishwasher to see if the switches feed single sockets to each appliance. If they do then they will have fuses in the plugs also; these may have blown. Has nothing definately not...

What is the oldest electrical wiring you've seen working?

About three years ago I saw a 'beautiful' DB made of lovingly finished wood with a etched glass front cover and finished with untarnished/polished brass hinges/bolts etc. I know it was replaced shortly afterwards, I would hope this original board was not tossed asunder. So actually, the...

    So who are electricians?

So, PBD, you are similar to me - self employed with all the chasing around and paperwork etc.....so.....how the hell do you find the time to put so many posts on here?! :D Not in any way having a go as I find your posts are generally succinct, accurate, informative and to the point...

    So who are electricians?

PS The prolific posters on here (BAS, PBD, JOHNW2(!) etc etc) must be retired or earn a lot of money to have enough spare time to post as they do! I barely have time to take a p1sh most days! So what is your position John? Regards.

    So who are electricians?

Hi John, I will get the ball rolling then! I am self employed carrying out mainly electrical and joinery work. Not registered with any scheme at present, instead I tend to use LABC several times per year for signing off. I always make customers aware of the legal obligations of the...

Value of copper and how do i clean it up?

As a rough punt I would say Cola perhaps?! It brings two penny pieces up like new but then I do not know what they are made of!

Rotten porch needs overhaul - timber window frame mouldings?

Wee&Poo (b&q) and Wickes both have suitable mouldings to finish the outside, used with some putty on the inside - where the glass meets the wood. Or alternatively could just use putty. Dont forget to use putty on both inside and outside. You can get hideous noises from mildly vibrating glass...

    Putting back a kickboard

Electric plane or jigsaw the the top edge of it. If you make a bit of a hash of it, it should be covered by the overhang of the base cabinets. Be careful tho!

    Advice on a table

Hi, I would sand down a section of the underside of the table (if viable to do so) and try different finishes on it. That way you should find a preferred finish and it will not affect the table top. Regards.

    Rewire costs

I would say that £950 for a rewire in London sounds about right...... You do live in a studio flat or garden shed afterall dont you!! I would NOT, EVER IN A MILLION YEARS employ someone on these terms for a job that should likely cost at least double that; obviously dependant on your...

    Adding additional power sockets

 Have I missed something as not one bit of advice so far has mentioned a RCD! Personally, if I was adding numerous sockets to a RF I would want it fully tested.

    MDF exterior work table

As Big All says; MDF+weather=BAD! WBP exterior ply would be better suited. It will require plenty of protection to help it withstand our beautiful weather! Still not ideal though. Can you not shove a tarpaulin over it in winter?

Stupid poxy little tin galvy nailed clips in oak.

Ha ha! Reminds of being in a beer garden yrs back; there was a tiny little worm type critter (about 8mm in length) crawling across the table in a zig-zaggy all-over-the-place motion. It then went through some spilt beer and crawled away the other side in a perfectly straight line leaving a...

installing inset mirror with demisting pad

I would say the logical thing to do would be to allow a 150mm 'frame' around the edge of the mirror with the pad in the middle. Between a suitable adhesive on this 'frame' and the grout/sealant applied after then it should stay in place. Tho may be an issue on larger mirrors. The very edges...

    Lighting Help Please

Concur with Earth Fault Loop. Sounds like a red (live) is not feeding the other lighting points or a black (neutral) is not allowing a return path thus completing the circuit. Check over all the connections (especially reds/blacks) and try again.

Cutting and Sealing Kitchen End Panels

re cutting; you can get specific jigsaw blades designed to cut without chipping the edges. Bosch TRF-101-AO springs to mind as the product code possibly. Check whether you need bayonet or trad fitting blades.
