Cutting and Sealing Kitchen End Panels

I would smear silicone, as Stephen suggests, over cut edge and then silicone along floor surface once installed. Obviously depending on what the floor surface is though. Alternatively you can get clear plastic strips that are designed to fit onto the bottom of kickboards etc. Howdens supply...

    Kitchen socket help please

Blimey! Surely it can't take long to cut the holes with the right gear. Maybe they require tamplating and cutting off-site. Still a good whack. As others have said, can do DIY jjust make sure the relevant circuits are dead, and be careful not to nip any cables when re-attaching the socket faces.

    Repairing spindles

PS got them from screwfix I think. Get as long as possible. Alternatively get some 200mm lengths of 8mm stud, and glue that instead.

    Repairing spindles

I have fixed this problem in the past using double ended screws. Not sure of their proper name but worked a treat. You remove spindle, carefully pilot hole each end that is broken with a smaller drill bit and then screw together with some glue for good measure. Can you not get cheap...

fitting doors on a howden 931 corner

Hi, am typing from phone so will be brief. You can attach the vertical corner 'fillet' to one of the doors edges. So hang both doors, decide which is the best door to have opening first and then attach the fillet to the edge of the other door using joining plates on rear of door. If...

    Built in wardrobes

Just read your post again. Regarding materials they are generally made of MFC (melamine face chipboard). MDF could be used for some aspects of it but I would not personally use it. Design wise they come in different styles. I like the framed style with slightly smaller doors. than the robes...

    Built in wardrobes

Hi, Last two wardrobe jobs I did were as follows: One room with 1.2m corner robe and a run of 3.3m ish. They were 2.7m in height. Also had a separate tallboy and 2 bedside cabs. Spots and some other electrical work included. These were quality robes with 18mm solid backs and all singing...

    Hardwired Smoke Detectors

Cheers Oasis, much appreciated. Will speak to LABC an fireman sam when I get a chance to. May even get the IEE guide to fire detection as I am sure it will be a better 'read' than 5839 itself!! I am quite fortunate in that I mainly deal with decent landlords who generally 'pull their...

    Double oven replacment advise

Concur with other posts re current draw. I have been looking extensively recently for a double oven that is 13A max for a longstanding client who would prefer not to have a new cable running in. I have not managed to find a double oven suitable (I knew whilst searching it would be a lesson...

    Hardwired Smoke Detectors

Oasis, if you could point me in the direction of where it categorically (under law) states that 2 storey rentals defo require mains interlinked as a minimum I would massively appreciate it as it could lead to extra work for me! I have been looking into it tonight and have not found anything...

    Hardwired Smoke Detectors

Sorry went a bit off topic! Not aware of a requirement for interlink between battery only smokes. If that was the case the upheaval in installing a physical (cable) interlink would likely make it sensible to install mains powered ones at the same time I think. Seems daft-ish to install a hard...

Cutting wood to match the profile of a dado rail

I have had a profile gauge in my toolbox for years... not been used in many of them tho! They are useful-ish but I now find it quicker to judge by eye or using a bit of cardboard. I find the gauges can be misleading sometimes, so am wary of having too much confidence in them. With cardboard...

    Hardwired Smoke Detectors

Hi, Around 60% of my work comes via my wife's family business (estate/letting agents). As I understand it domestic rental props are not legally bound to have mains powered smokes but can suffice with battery ones. Mains would be obviously better. Following on from OasisTech helpful post...

Neighbour stealing my electricity - advice

Kapenta, In the face of such needlessly shameful behaviour (it's not like they are starving or desparate afterall), I would take the following approach. Utilising the quietness of dusk I would lift some floorboards (you are above yeh..) and punch a small hole through the ceiling, maybe...

    GU10 Bulb, cant remove

I have had this problem numerous times. Bl00dy annoying, sometimes they seem welded in. Must have had this happen with half a dozen fittings over last 5 yrs. When I fit 230V halogen fittings I always point this potential problem out to clients and recommend using fittings which have the edges...

    Core drilling

Not sure of model number. It is a blue Bosch, there are two available around that price/wattage, I got the bigger one of the two. Good call re Screwfix, can normally always find cheaper elsewhere. Hope the Hitachi is a good un.

    Core drilling

Hi, I bought the Bosch 'blue' 710 or 760W SDS specifically for core driliing. Cost around £130.. I do not do cores every wk so thought this was a well priced option. According to the manufacturers gumph it can do up to 65mm cores. I found it coped OK doing 110mm cores. It can get a lil hot...

    Accessible Junction boxes

Bernard, I find that photo to be a thing of beauty/ambiguity.. Are you saying that the ring was completed within the JB's and all sockets were 'spurs' as such?? Why do you mention door bell...am I missing something? Ban, Gees; a true n straight line is a rare thing indeed....makes life...
