    I'm stuck

Spark Apparently there was a very short powercut last night and nothing to do with pub/guitar. Don't know if that makes a difference. The switch seems to blow - when switching on it clicks whereas the others are all smooth. Tried keeping it in place - still trips back. Tried what you...

    I'm stuck

Is the MCB master circuit board or what I would call the fuse box? If it is every switch tripped - i.e.e wenyt fromj on to off. I switched them back 1 by 1. This worked except for the upstairs lighting - everytime you put it to on it flips back to off straight away.

    Laying Bricks

actually the frog should be uppermost. see http://www.pavingexpert.com/featur09.htm which says... With solid or perforated bricks, the orientation of the brick doesn't matter, but with frogged bricks, the frog should always be laid uppermost. This ensures that the loading of the wall is...

    My boiler

Thanks to everyone for their helpful comments and suggestions. Mandate - thanks - the crap flow is in the kitchen but other taps downstairs are good so it's probably a tap thing which i can't be bothered to look into (wife's not complaining so it can't be a problem!) think i've learned quite...

    My boiler

masona think i may have solved this or at least partially the header tank was almost empty and the ballcock was sezied - i've freed the ballcock up and have filled the tank up and have seen an improvement straight away just to answer your questions though - the flow rate is ok - upstairs is...

    shale test

dont quote me on this but as i understand it shale was used instead of hardcore (is this predominantly in mining areas?). i think shale absorbs water and may expand and contract possibly causing movement in the house itself. i had something like this on my survey but took the view if the house...

    central heating

alexnic - thanks for this i was thinking about the (thermo) stat. I'll go and check if there is one on the hot water tank but can't remember seeing one when I was feeling the pipes and having a nose round. If there isn't one what controls the temperature of the hot water - there is a 'stat on...

    central heating

got a funny central heating works but not the hot water heating got a boiler from the 70's which seems bullet proof - guess pump works as the radiators get hot but get no hot water. if the hot water is switched on one of the pipes into the hot water tank gets red hot the tank doesn't seems...
