Washing Machines Failing PAT tests on High leakage

Your logic is correct but isn't 0.014uF equal to 227,364.4 ohms at 50hz equal to approximately 1mA at 230V? Or am I suffereing from decimalpointitis 8)

Washing Machines Failing PAT tests on High leakage

I see that you are testing us John? It appears that you transposed the values to see if we were awake

    why downlighters

That is a question to which the answer should be obvious, I fit them because customers ask me to fit them after I have tried my reasonable, polite best to talk them out of fitting them. Your list just sounds like an ill informed rant.

    why downlighters

I am not a fan of downlights either but what is the main point of your list? We have fitted downlighters into lathe ceilings (many times) and even square drywall boxes into lathe walls. There is a risk that the plaster can "pop" but if you are careful it works out fine.

    An interesting read

I conclude that they are either completely stupid or were just waiting for a good excuse to get the big digger and cherry picker out

how to set up a motor overload

The overload relay setting depends upon where it is located in circuit, what type of starter circuit you have. It's all about allowing the motor to come up to full speed (load plays a big factor here) while still maintaining overload protection. Have a look at this first then come back with any...

Washing Machines Failing PAT tests on High leakage

Exactly! It seems to me (as others have suggested) that this is more or less a case of very acceptable insulation resistance during a DC test with a "slight failure" on an AC test that may not need to be performed if an insulation test is successful. The issue probably related to filter caps...

    Meauring an earth rod impedance

Well, as far as I know (and have experienced over 30+years) no circuit exhibits pure resistance and that includes the ground. Admittedly the reactive component of certain common damp soils is small compared to that of the purely resistive component but it still exists and can be observed as a...

    lights

Correct, thanks for pointing that out. If only I could teach my keyboard to produce what I meant and not what I type

    lights

Yep its not a problem. You can not spur from a spur unless you use an FCU or similar. You can spur from a ring final or a radial. Have a look at regulation 433.1 there is a nice drawing of what you can/can not do.

    lights

It's OK to take a spur from a radial.

    Meauring an earth rod impedance

Were you really that confused? It was a small error on my part for which I humbly apologise. I should have written "external Ze" In everyday speak Ra often gets used (technically incorrectly) as Ze in a TT arrangement. Many interpretations of BS7671 certificates ask for the rod Ra and the...

I found out my electrician was not NICEIC registered??

Please also (in addition to other actions) report the person to the NICEIC, contact details below. They have a "wall of shame" on their website and after investigation may place him on it. NICEIC Head Office Warwick House Houghton Hall Park Houghton Regis Dunstable LU5 5ZX Tel: 0870...

    lights

Good point. the flex will need a connected CPC even if the light fittings don't need it.

    lights

Well you could protect with a 1 amp fuse in that case. I still say that is a long run of flex and sounds like something that should be wired properly as fixed wiring in 1mm or 1.5mm twin&earth or is it a temporary arrangement?

    Meauring an earth rod impedance

Aha right, in that case yes an EIC.

That's a lot of flex!! What wattage lights? You will need to watch volt drop?
