    water in heating oil

It doesn't really make much difference if there's lots of oil in or not, obviously less oil makes it marginally easier. Simple enough once settled to put a hose at the bottom and syphon the water out until it runs clear with oil. You will never get all the water out but plenty enough so the...

    Gas Meter Safety Question

I'm with Tony on this, I don't believe an anaconda is necessary, however the ECV is a major concern. Presumably the installation has been capped until it is sorted.

    British Gas HomeCare

£22 per month is £264 a year! I'm assuming that includes a service (They pay their subbies under £21 per service completed) Unless you are having the PCB/ fan changed on a yearly basis then you must be a loon to even consider any insurance (£314 for the privilege if you did call them out...

    Need help to choose thermostat

Just swap the wheel thermostat with a Honeywell CM907, no extra wiring is needed. All you need to do is switch the timer/programmer central heating to constant then control it with your new programmable stat.

    Life of Combi boiler.

10 years @ £240/year Homecare cover = £2400 or 10 years of servicing @ £50/year = £500, lets add another £500 for a generous amount of repairs during that time and you're still £1400 up. Going with any boiler insurance is madness, using them to install a new boiler is even greater lunacy...

    zoning central heating

If the OP has 3 radiators downstairs then I'd guess it's a similar load upstairs. If it's a combi or a 18/24 Kw regular boiler I normally see installed then of course it will cycle. To zone it I guess you could bodge it with a single zone valve on a switch that is turned on before going to...

How can I source filling loop "taps" for Glow-worm

I'd second that, although a 4mm hex T bar might make things even easier.

    zoning central heating

I really wouldn't bother, I doubt you will ever see a payback to zoning the system. If you switch off the heating upstairs during the day the heat from downstairs will simply 'leak' upstairs. The boiler will also cycle madly due to having such a low heat demand losing efficiency. Just...

    Condensate Drainage Pipe

Did you not think to Google the name Ferolli? If it's going outside that pipe should be 32mm minimum through the wall, insist on it to punish the installer for choosing Ferolli.

Sand and cement render + copper pipes

Don't worry about the pipes being close going up the wall, he's made the effort to separate them at floor level. The alternative is to have pipes running half the way across the wall vertically. For what it's worth the plumber looks like he knows what he's doing, it's done in copper and...

Green Deal advice (Boiler, Heat recovery systems)

And everyone knows why it was removed - it "creates an unfair competitive advantage to some companies" (or words to that effect). No surprises which manufacturer doesn't offer flue heat recovery units...

    Power Flush Hire

That will cost you nearly £120 for the weekend hire, plus ~£30 for the chemicals. I would see if you can't get a plumber in who will do the job for £200-£250.

DIY Plumb details inside (with layout pic)

Go 22mm from the stop tap to where it splits for cold/boiler feed, (provided the incoming main is similar size or greater).

    Spanner? - An easy one

Can I ask who stocks them in the UK? It's always nice to try new tools, I've only really had hands on with Rigid (that I know are US anyway)'

    Spanner? - An easy one

[/url] I'm struggling to find any adjustable spanners there... Open your eyes to ebay and you might realize the savings you can make, if only from all the guys on contract selling their inhibitor for 1/4 of the price of merchants.

    Spanner? - An easy one

I thought they were Spanish now, but agree they are complete rubbish. It's getting harder and harder to find quality tools. I now just scour ebay for 'vintage' ones.

Apollo 15/30B Boiler - BG suggest change - limited parts?

The fact you get a "gratuity", as you put it, means you have every reason to tell the customer "their boiler is obsolete and on its last legs, have a free quote of us". Also I'm pretty sure the SM puts plenty of pressure on those not selling enough. As a previous subbie every person in your...

Flexible flue - is this as complete a bodge as I think it is

That policy is pretty hard to fathom. Im not sure if it supports my view or proves I'm talking rubbish :D

Flexible flue - is this as complete a bodge as I think it is

Could you please provide the name of the Inspector as this is complete bulls**t. Under no circumstances can a business display the gas safe logo unless they are a registered business themselves.

    Oxy-acetylene kits

Have you used a nozzle for the MAPP gas before? I did think about this but was worried it might make welding more difficult, I'm no expert as it is, so struggling with the flame on one of those might make it even more of a challenge.
