    Concrete drying / curing times

Hi, Thank you for the advice. I know using the pre mixed bags wasn't the cheapest option but it was the most convenient for me, if I was doing anything bigger I'd have a ready mixed load delivered. So, if I understand correctly as the slab is about 4ins thick it will take about 4 months...

    Concrete drying / curing times

Hi all, Would like some advice about a new concrete slab I've just laid. The slab has been laid internally in a small conservatory and this room gets really warm almost too warm (practically south facing), size is approx 2.4m * 1.25m * 0.1m (8ft * 4ft * 4in) and laid over a 1000 gauge...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Good evening all, I am sorry to have to report that the boiler has decided to be a real pain. Although I thought the problem on the HW side was sorted it doesn't seem to be as the boiler has again decided to fire up only when it wants to and I can't even get the CH side to fire the boiler...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi, Thanks for the advice - was away for the day so checked things this morning. I am getting a reading of about 1ohm and when connecting 3 & 4 together the boiler fires straightaway. It therefore seems that the clock/timer is u/s - a new on is being sorted.

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi, I have checked the voltages and they are as follows: At mains/incoming, segment timer/internal clock and PCB (where mains connects) are all 235V At outcoming from segment timer (red wires) and where it connects to PCB is 198V. Checking back to the fault finding section of my...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hello, Thank you for the help. I have had a check on the PCB and all connections are fine, I have double checked and they are all in place. On my model the way the room stat is connected is via a plastic connector block which forms part of the strip that the incoming mains is connected...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi All, I wanted to give you all an update. After a visit of my guy he suspected that the heat exchanger was blocked and therefore using spirit of salts gave it a clean. Although he said it wasn't that bad. He also felt that the 3 port valve (part of the diverter valve assembly) might...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Evening Dave, Ah well such is life no probs about the PPS. I think I am going to change it anyway (about £25 to change so the bank isn't going to break) as I was messing around with it as I thought it could be dismantled and I am now not sure exactly what position it was set at - bugger...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi Dave, No, as soon as I disconect the PPS a fault is shown. The A & B lights immediately start flashing on & off alternatively, which according to the instruction manual I have means that the system pressure is too low and need re-pressuring. Although of course the pressure is fine, it is...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Dave, The control know is working fine. I have removed the PSS and from looking at it doesn't look serviceable - is that the case - if that is the case such is life I'll have to get a new one, again quite an inexpensive bit to buy. Thanks again Jules

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Good evening Dave, Thank you very much for the further advice. I don't think any part has snapped or broken off, but if you could direct me to the "control knob" I will double check. With regards to the PPS, I will follow the instructions I have to remove it and check every thing is...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi, Just wanted to update the situation as the new FS has been fitted. No joy in sorting out the problem, the boiler is has problems. I am sitting in front of the boiler and it is trying to fire up and with the CH switched off (set to 0 on the timer and HW only selected) and no HW taps...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

I've been sitting in front of the boiler for a fair while now and the probelm hasn't seem to re-occured. Definately no leaks or dripping taps. Got a new FS on order so I'll fit and see what happens and report.

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Paul and Dave, Thanks gents for trying to help me out. I would like to pass on the following info to you. At present the boiler has been switched over to HW only - via the selector and reset switch and not just turning the timer off. There is no HW being demanded anywhere and the bolier...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi Paul, Thanks for the advice. I concur about the diaphragm, the CH pipes are not warming up with the boiler running but only HW being demanded. Also having changed it about 8/9 months ago I didn't think that would be the problem. I have suspected the FS, so I will get one and change...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Evening Dave, Thank you for the advice. I most certainly would concur about distance diagnosis. If you are able to give me some help or guidance in checking the resistance of the ntc (but must admit not sure what this is) I would be grateful as I do have a mutli meter handy. However, if...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi All, Would be really grateful for some help on this problem. Would also like to add the following, The problem seems to be intermittant. Whilst the boiler is firing up it will cut out for no reason on both HW and CH modes. It seems to be more succesful when demanding DH, i.e. it...

Alpha CB28X - Not firing up problem

Hi, Just wanted to add the following; The boiler seems to be having a mental session and is crazily trying to fire up (as still in constant CH mode). However the FS seems to be clicking on and off. Don't know if that helps but thought I'd mention it. Jules
