Fitting solid wood floor to chipboard?

If only I could bloody get some PAR! Only two local suppliers got back - one has next to no timber at all and recommended the p5, the other would be hugely more expensive. However...this has given me an idea. If I could get them to plane 22mm, it would not matter the widths as I could shiffle...

Fitting solid wood floor to chipboard?

Ironically there would be a noticeable step if I secured the oak to the joists directly. There's a fair gap under the door - I suspect from some meaty carpets in the past. Joist span varies which is part of my concern - 430 to 450 and directly securing would probably incur some degree of...

Fitting solid wood floor to chipboard?

As part of the renovations of the spare room, I've decided to take up the old pine floor boards and replace with new. We have a solid oak 18mm thick floor to lay which I was going to mechanically attach using hidden screws. I toyed with the idea of directly fixing these to the joists but think...

Filling the header tank makes a foghorn noise

Thanks both! I think I'll stick to replacing the whole lot. After all we live in a throwaway culture and I would not want to appear radical...

Filling the header tank makes a foghorn noise

Thank you. So that's the valve failing and presumably causing metal to make contact as the washer is knackered? I looked at a few YouTube vids so this seems straight forward.

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

 It's not technically my Henry...the previous owner left it and it works a treat!

Filling the header tank makes a foghorn noise

I have previously isolated the feed to the header tank in the past when working on the system, rather than isolating it in the header tank itself. I just noticed after draining some water via the magnetic cleaner that the feed makes an almighty foghorn noise. The vibration is fairly extreme to...

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

Here's the 22mm feeds coming out of the cupboard:

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

Pump is right next to the boiler and there are no zones setup.

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

Boiler is only 3 years old, and we have 3 bathrooms!

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

We don’t have a combo boiler. The microbore feed worries me a bit but there’s no way to check as we refloored the next room. The plumber who did some work in there did not mention anything untoward so I’m going to assume that they were not multiple feeds from the microbore.

Taking new feed from boiler vs extending current microbore

Hi there, I am intending to remove and install a new radiator to a different wall in the spare room. The boiler is also in this room, within a cupboard. We also have issues elsewhere in the house where some rads do not get hot so generally I am looking at how to improve things generally. For...

    TRV and lockshield...without the TRV?

I won't need the TRV bodies themselves as I have the Hive ones. But thanks for the tip anyway.

    TRV and lockshield...without the TRV?

I toyed with Nest but in the end Amazon didbthier thing by virtually giving away echo devices and before I knew it I had half a dozen. I've got the ring alarm and a few cameras also. Integration is pretty good to be honest.

Replacing old fireplace hearth tiles with floorboards

Thanks @Nige F - I was planning on fitting a double socket anyway. I'll pop that skirting board off next and see what's behind. The cable is also attached to a sconce light and a you can see there's only 1 cable... my house if full of spurs on spurs. Previous owner was pretty handy but did not...

    TRV and lockshield...without the TRV?

Thanks all. @ericmark I think they work really well to be honest. I have invested in some serious Wifi - I have the Eero Pro mesh as a result of problems when we first moved in and have to agree if your wifi is not up to scratch then some will not pair or will lose connection. I live in a 1902...

Replacing old fireplace hearth tiles with floorboards

OK - finally got around to removing the tiles and there's no concrete underneath. It appears that the joist was cut to accommodate the tiles and additional boards placed beneath. There's a row of bricks which are loose but beyond that just rubble and dust. Not sure how far to excavate this? But...

    TRV and lockshield...without the TRV?

Oh and I've noticed that brand TRVs are really bloody expensive in Screwfix - is that normal?

    TRV and lockshield...without the TRV?

I have a bunch of Hive TRVs and am going to buy a few column rads. While on lockdown it appears Screwfix are no longer throwing free TRV and lockshields at people so I need to buy them separately. Quick question, as I have a funky TRV already, will a cheaper lockshield/TRV set from screwfix be...

Replacing old fireplace hearth tiles with floorboards

Thanks for the input everyone. I know the flue was blocked up about 20 to 30 years ago shortly after the house was bought by the previous owners. I can access the flue on the ground floor but can see its been blocked up. There’s no detectable draft in the upstairs room and don’t know when the...
