Recessed gas meter box - 470 wide

I am looking to have my recessed gas-meter box changed but cannot seem to find one to fit the size of hole in my wall. - All the boxes online appear to be 365mm wide or 'a brick and a half' wide. - My box is around 470 wide, or in other words 'two full bricks' wide. - Height and depth...

How do I painta freshly plastered ceiling and get perfection

A good trade white (trade as in good quality, not trade as is a bucket of cheap crap) , a medium pile wood roller, and a good quality 2inch brush for edging. If you look at it from 6inches away you will see brush strokes in the edging, and roller texture in the rest, but it should not look a...

    Primer 'balling up' when sanded?

Ive got it as good as I can be bothered to, and got the top coat on, which unlike the primer was a pleasure to apply. Covered well over the buff colored primer given its gloss red, if less well over area at the end of the dipper I did primer and was going direct onto rust converter. Daniel

    Primer 'balling up' when sanded?

I just cant understand it, it does feel that way, still slightly tacky feeling and pulls the paper up when you lift it, but it wasnt THAT thick and it has been there weeks. Its sunny today to might get it in the warm, but ultimately while I might ring Dulux tech help, I think I am going to...

    Primer 'balling up' when sanded?

What can be done to minimise balling up, short of wet sanding? I have painted a number of parts in Dulux Metalshield 'High Build' Zinc Phosphate Primer. It was a bit of a sod to apply, as it was very thick and tended to skin and the pull if not working very fast. I could mainly keep up with...

    FENCING - Screws or Nails??

Yeah, depends on the fence, but I have basically only nailed. Even for post and rail fences, you just use the bit 100mm galv nails.... Only exception is bodging panel fencing that is time expired, where nailing it would totally shagg the job but odd screws can get another 18months life out of...

    Ice Bucket Challenge

I have been nominated, and shall be doing a video tonight. However I to have unanswered questions about the said charity, which have already had a lot of money, so shall be donating elsewhere. The idea of buying or making a large amount of ice to then waste it also grates, so I shall be...

    blow torch

Do be fair, the cheap tat in BnQ is often £35 odd... for another "35 Iw would be tempted. Although if you have time you can get one for £15-20 online, and they are good for lighting bonfires and generally abusing.... Daniel

Cooker Cable slightly damaged . Advice on repair.

I don't think cables bruise! - If its only damaged the covering, there might be repair options. - If its damaged the copper, small nick, dent, etc, a join/replacement is needed imo. Daniel

Decent Gloss Paint for Steel - Woolworth's Poppy Red

Sounds good to me. Most primers are not weatherproof as far as I know, fortunately (?) most of my projects are on a timeline that means it will never be an issue! - We're also an hour from the coast, and the other of the pennies.... Daniel

Decent Gloss Paint for Steel - Woolworth's Poppy Red

I guess thats not a bad plan. And is it all right paint? I have used Dulux Weathershield (trade and punter spec) white gloss on all our wooden window frames, but heard mixed reviews about the colours covering badly and streaking. Although being red I expect the worse outcome is is going...

    Rads corroded

You still have dis-similar metals even if there is not air. I presume that's one of the things the inhibitors protect again, certainly it is in the case of a car cooling/radiator loop. Daniel
