Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

Apologies I meant none of the installers that have quoted me have suggested Intergas or Atag, I realise Dan_Robinson had earlier and I'm grateful for that insight. Thank you also for this recommendation.

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

No one has recommended an Intergas yet - there is an installer in my area. What model would you recommend? I have a Potterton Prima 30F at the moment. Do the Intergas heat only boilers require a direct pump overrun connection?

You guys are really helpful. Thank you. I think I was just having a knee jerk reaction to finding the next thing that needs sorting. I live alone so it's unlikely that I'll get the disruption of a tap being turned on, but the other points are valid so I probably just need to sort the tank in...

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

This is an update for interested people, but may be a bit off topic wrt my original post. I've swayed from combi to conventional a few times over the last week. I'm trying to see the advantages and disadvantages of both but I still can't seem to decide. I was all up for staying conventional...

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

Thanks I've come to the same conclusion. In fact I'm now thinking of having a conventional replacement so I won't have the hassle. I'm going to be a nightmare customer asking for more quotes but I didn't know any of this stuff when I started out. Anyone care to recommend a good...

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

To follow up guys, I had another fitter in this morning and he took a look at the pipe. It's 1/2" steel going to 15mm copper, so will probably need replacing. He's suggested I have a gas pressure test built into the quote with the contingency of a new supply pipe, which seems a sensible approach.

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

Thanks everyone. None of the fitters have physically seen the pipe. I took the kitchen skirting off and took a picture after I'd been given the news about needing a new pipe. I have sent the picture to the fitters, but I think they have been thinking the same as you guys and going from what is...

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

I know nothing about pipes so don't know by looking, but a taking a 90mm circumference assuming a 28mm diameter gives a 3/4" pipe size I think. jeez how do you guys keep sane with all the metric/imperial mix and match??

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

The circumference of the pipe coming out of the floor is 90mm, which I work out to be 28mm diameter, presuming that's steel? But I don't know. It looks like a straight run from the gas meter into the house to the gas hob first then to the boiler. I've worked out approximate run lengths: 5.5M...

Conventional to combi conversion. Inlet size reassurance.

I've searched the forum and there are a few similar threads, but I was wondering if I could ask the question before I commit to spending quite a bit of money. I've got a conventional potterton boiler gravity system that's about 17 years old. I have a loud shower pump upstairs in the airing...

upstairs/downstairs switches not having desired effect

Honestly I have no idea as I can't see - they go vertical upwards in the wall. But it's next to the front door so I presume it's first in the circuit so the main box?

    Ceiling rose to modern fitting

The result is that I have a lovely functioning light and have learnt loads about wiring - thanks to both of you. Maybe I had a loose connection the first time around - so you are both probably correct.

upstairs/downstairs switches not having desired effect

There are three earth cores which originate from three, three core flexes which feed the switch. I presume I can connect this to the switch plate.

upstairs/downstairs switches not having desired effect

I think it's Plan B then! The downstairs switch (that previous owners installed - not me!) has an earth connection in the housing in the recess - is this insufficient? And if so - can I at least fix this problem?

    Ceiling rose to modern fitting

Well I had a go and wired it up as slup suggested. But that didn't work and the next set of lights along in the kitchen didn't work either. So I wired as PrenticeBoyofDerry suggested - and it works fine. Thanks again

As requested here are two pictures of the wiring currently in the sockets. The first picture is down - the second (white) is up It seems the images were rotated when I uploaded them. I don't know how to fix that I'm afraid.
