Advice re possible asbestolux ceiling panel

Remember that it it is not just the dust you breathe in whilst you doing it but the dust which settle on your clothes or on the floor that you or your family member may breathe in after the works have finished. You can get little attachments so you can vacuum the dust whilst drilling.. however...

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

If air were such good an insulator why would argon be used in double glazing? Also why do they use it as a heatshield in welding? Some figures here for you to go through.. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/thermal-conductivity-d_429.html

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Lol.. if only i could afford aerogel and even then when not in it's purest form is it not hydroscopic?

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Seems that the gasses used are changeable with older boards using cfc gasess as the blowing agent. then there was a move to hcfc and from their to Pentane and HFC. More information here. http://www.epic.uk.com/assets/epic_identification_and_disposal.pdf If 97% of the volume of the foam...

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Yes and given what freddy says there is little point to go with XPS if the degraded U value is that of XPS. Thanks guys!

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Ok.. From what i've read combined with my possibly silly reasons for use of fibre boards.. Would it be sufficent to use XPS where I am short of depth and 130mm mineral fibre board the remainder?

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Thank you! 1 further qu.. sorry.. You mention not sufficient pressure to.. but what about capillary action of the damp within plaster/wall is that not possible or is it a question that there is not sufficient moisture for that to occur to such a degree?

    structural wall or not?

I completely agree. hence why I said: however there is a lot more to it and its always best to use engineers services. [/b]

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

understood well sort of.. When you say "managed by the structure", if the struture itself cannot breathe externally how can it manage it? It would absorb from the inside and only release when ambient humidity dropped but again only to the inside and the same through air movement hence the reason...

    structural wall or not?

I've not got your experience on the job but as long as you know which figures to enter and you know what types of loads you are applying and where find superbeam or eurobeam fairly straight forward. The only thing that has thrown me on superbeam is how to calculate cantilevers.. Personally I...

    structural wall or not?

To get an idea of steel costs, you can use www.Parkersteel.co.uk And to find out the steel (as to get an idea) use http://www.eurobeam.co.uk/ demo app. Entering the standard load data found in the trada link i gave you should give you an idea of what steel is needed and as such the...

    structural wall or not?

Whats the point of that comment? Waste of your own time i fear. if you were to put in a steel beam. then around £250-300 inc for SE calcs Then Building control fees. + steel + works An important factor is how wide the wall is which will indicate the span of the beam required... Or if going...

    structural wall or not?

according to the tables in the link below the max span is between 3.5 and 4.2m depending on your deadload. http://www.dfpni.gov.uk/d.pdf So unfortunately the answer is .. yes it is a supporting wall. you could get around it by installing flitch beams (2 Joists with steel sandwiched...

    structural wall or not?

but what is the size of the joists? 5.25m with wall removed?

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Sorry, please explain.. Are you saying no vapour is created internally? And that PIR does not brake down?
  16. C

    structural wall or not?

So can I asume the upstairs floor joists run over are supported/ touching the breezeblock? It may be easiest to measure how long they would travel if the wall were removed. and check in Trada tables to see whether they were of acceptable size for the span. note, i couldn't see any photos.

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

Yes. I appreciate that but there is also the element of internal production of vapour along with any moisture contained within the wall at time of installation. Admittedly I could use PIR for the section where there is not enough space. My other concern with PIR is the way it degrades and...

EWI not enough space at one point.. how to handle?

PIR is closed cell. Certainly better U values but not as breathable. The vapor permeability given its solid wall is of paramount importance.

Cutting reclaimed steel beams to size

Thanks... The proof of steel type and not being in a fire has made me a little more cautious on the same. The steel I was looking at was new and supplied with docs however i now understand the importance of the declaration of conformity or whatever. I'd never have thought to go to aldi...

Min Depth of Concrete/ screed on oversight + Drying tim

Thank you for pointing that out... I really dont know why I hadnt thought of the compression factor. The drawing is not to scale.. It was just knocked up quickly to try and help visualise the varied levels. The thickest insulation slab are 350mm and not 600 as the. There would also be a...
