    External rcd socket

If you cut through your mower cable, you're gonna have to go in the house to get your car keys to go down the wholesalers to get some new flex - so why your walking past your CU, you can re-set your rcd !!!! Any mower (or appliance causing leakage) would be useless & dangerous til repaired, so...

    mcb and cable

I think the cable can take about 18 amps, but you will have to check. In that case a 16 amp mcb would do it, but personally I'd put it on a 10 amp as its primarily used for heavier lighting loads (or as a spur load cable). Depends what purpose you are using it for.

    Panasonic RX-DS45

Either your ampifier circuitry has gone faulty, or the line input selector is switched to the wrong input , and the small sound that you hear is the signal backfeeding through a different input. Could e an internal fuse popped, or a voltage down on the psu circuitry. Do any other functions...

    Conservatory Wiring

When I did my conservatory, I extended the ring from the back wall , as it was within the conservatory, ie the same back wall. I put had a double socket directly behind the one that was in the house, and then continued with the ring into a 5 amp fcu to feed the light. With regards to the...

    C&K securitech alarm system

IS there power to the alarm panel (and remote keypad if it has one!) , because you had a power cut , when the power came back on it may have surged the panel and taken out either the external spur fuse , or even the internal fuses on the alarm pcb, or it could have even spiked the memory on the...

    C&K securitech alarm system

I have installed some old ex-chubb panels in the past, and the majority of them use CK Securitech PCB's inside them. The procedure for the reset of the Chubb panels was to type the code in then wait for a nee-naw-nee-naw sound, then press the # key. Try that and see how you get on.

    Difficulty identifying current garage lighting

I reckon you've got an earth hidden inside the pvc cable. If somebody bothered to run a twin and earth switch wire, then you SHOULD have at least that same twin and earth switch wire connected to your light !! The fact that they never connected it to the incoming earth loop shows signs of a...

    GU 10 problems

I'd say its a combination of Poor quality bulbs and excess steam from kettle/pan etc getting into the bulbs or their fittings. Try branded bulbs in your kitchen, and keep your naff ones for the other locations!! And point the bulbs away from the appliances instead of directly above them...

2 way switching with neon & no neutral.

I have been asked to replace a lightswitch - and its in a non-notifiable location!!! Problem is, the new switch that is to replace the old, MUST have a neon indicator on it - or be illuminated in some way at the switch!! Here is the slight dilemma. The switch is currentlly wired as 2...

Lights - create "Morning has broken"

You COULD Get special covers (fire resistant - although they will probably still let the light through)!! The reason the insulation has been removed is because due to the heat of the lamps (and their transformers if SELV) , it represents a fire hazard - and would you rather have 'Morning Has...

RJ45, phono and plug sockets together.... good idea???

I would'nt worry about it. After all, your cat5/6 networking cables are designed in a twisted pair fashion deliberately to help keep out interference from other sources (and wires in the same cable). And as long as the audio cables you use are screened then they should be fine. If you look...

    external power query

Ok, I'll go along with that. Although I would term fixed wiring as wiring that is PHYSICALLY connected to the main supply, ie at all times regardless of whether in use or not, eg a circuit. Just because conduit is used, it does not make it FIXED, I mean you could run some speaker wires down it...

Yes, crafty, were you agreeing with my quote that it should'nt need notification , or do you think it IS notifiable?

    external power query

    external power query

Why not keep your mains appliances in your garage, eg camera monitor/vcr and camera power supplies, etc, and run 12 volt feeds from the garage out to the shed, and run the video camera signal wires back to the garage from the shed. As the 12 volt feeds are isolated, then you have no major...
