Problem with light switches not working properly

I can take photos but both switches just have two wires, one for the common and one for the L terminal. The light fitting also only has two cables. Should there me more?

Problem with light switches not working properly

Hello. I have a single ceiling light in my loft bedroom. There is a switch in the room and a switch at the bottom of the stairs. Both of the switches will turn the light off and on, but only if the other switch is in a certain position. i.e. if the room switch is on, the stair switch will turn...

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Just generic instructions, nothing specific. Sounds like a plan.

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Ah, I didn't know it had a minimum load, only a max. Each of the lights has a 40w bulb in it. Do they both need to be 60w or more?

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

That did the trick. The lights are flickering a bit and the switch is buzzing but that might just be because I bought a cheap Wickes light switch. I think it's wired up correctly now at least. Thanks very much, have a good night

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Hi Gman. Thanks for your advice. I changed the switch and wired it up exactly the same as before but it's still playing up. Both lights now dim but one of the dimmer switches now controls both lights. The other dimmer will control it's designated light, but only if the first switch is on. I...

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

I switched them around and now the fault has gone to the other light so it does look like a faulty switch. I'll get a new switch and wire it the same way. Is there anything else that looks dodgy to you or was it just the earth hanging loose? Thanks for your help - and EFLImpudence too.

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Hi. I wanted to check that it was wired correctly because it didn't seem to match any diagrams I found online. If it's wired correctly I will replace the switch with a new one and wire it the same way. Where does the CPC go?

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Hi Gman. I'm sure it is a bodge job - the guy I bought the house from seems to have done a lot of his own work and I'm not convinced he knew what he was doing. Anyway, I've attached another picture. I don't know why there is a wire hanging loose, it was like that when I opened it up. Thanks.

Can't make sense of faulty dimmer switch wiring.

Hello. I'm trying to fix a faulty dimmer switch but can't make much sense of the way the previous owner wired it. There are two dimmer switches on the plate controlling two separate lights. One of the lights turns on and off and dims no problem. The other switch turns the light on but only...

    Help with diagnosis?

I don't know much about cars but is there any chance it could be the spark plugs?

    Help with diagnosis?

Hi John. It's a petrol but the engine management lamp isn't on. When my mate bought it he drove it home 20 miles before the problems started. Would that have been possible if the fuel was no good?

    Help with diagnosis?

Hello everyone. My friend has bought a dud car and I'm trying to help him work out what is wrong with it. The car is a Kia Sportage 2000. The problem is that it only starts sometimes, other times it tries but never actually starts. When it does start it drives but at low speed the engine stalls...
