    Yet another problem argh!

Just tried to switch the central heating on from the timer. The boiler made a bit of a noise and then immediately went to the flashing symbol. This time no amount of turning the dial worked to get it to fire up - the display continued to flash and the boiler seemed to die. I switched the CH...

    Yet another problem argh!

Thanks again Tamz - Blue light is lit on the boiler all the time. I suspect the fault is electrial, but why the first timer went I don't know. It was the old original timer that the installer put back in - so must have been 23 years old. Heatingman - You would think wouldn't you that if you...

    Yet another problem argh!

Thank you very much for your help tamz. I am not sure what you mean by a permanent live and a switch live. Would this be at the timer? Story is that after powerflush the timer packed in (or at least this is what the guy said) he switched everything back on and there was no display CH...

    Yet another problem argh!

Thanks tamz - I am not sure it is overheating as it can be completely cold when the sign appears. It happens when the boiler is first switched on ie immediately the timer switches it on, and the boiler won't fire up, then, when the room stat switches the boiler off it won't come on again...

    Yet another problem argh!

OK - I have found that the fault - only occurs when the boiler starts up, that is either when it starts up from cold (so it can't be overheating) or when the room stat turns it off - then it won't start up again just flashes the bracket in the corner signs. This goes away and the boiler will...

    Yet another problem argh!

Have called WB and they say it is the temperature gradient limiter. :? Could be caused by air in the system or a blockage. Really wish I had now lived with a few radiators cold at the bottom and not had the power flush done - things went from bad to worse after that. I do have a lot of...

    Yet another problem argh!

Thanks everyone for all the help I have an open vented system. When I had the new timer fitted last week and the boiler was first switched on it displayed this symbol for a minute and then just started to heat. The RGI said he had never seen it before and thought it was just the boiler...

    Yet another problem argh!

Hi - the symbol wasn't -ll- it was more _ | _| Difficult to do with the keyboard but if you can imagine the display as a square and then half a square flashing in the top left and bottom right of the display. Can't find anything in the manual that describes it. Thanks anyway.

    Yet another problem argh!

Thanks Sam The condensate outlet is in my garage and it is not freezing tonight at all. I will phone WB in the morning and then my RGI. This happened when he put on a new timer and then switched on the system. He didn't know what it meant and we ignored it because the boiler then just...

    Yet another problem argh!

Tonight the house started to feel a little cold. Felt the radiators and they were cold - went to the boiler WB 40cdi conventional and the display was flashing a very odd symbol like half a square in the upper left corner and the same in the lower right corner - L shapes into the edges of the...

Ah yes - but then I can just sit back and ignore the energy companies for the next 20 years or so :D

:( Oh well - better start filling my piggy bank. This round cost me 5.5K in total. I know that the old cast iron boilers were horrendously inefficient but hey, they just kept on keeping on. Well as I will possibly be moving in a couple of years I have started to plan my next house...

    Hope this is not controversial

Have now found me a good RGI and everything seems to be working as it should :D I have read the thread about "Which Boiler", and considering I have now spent many many many thousands getting my CH going again I was a little perturbed to read that some of you think that modern boilers have a...

dirt and air in system (Meme21)

Hi Matt The make of the boiler is a Worcester Bosch 40 cdi on an open vented conventional system. I have TVR's fitted on most radiators. I don't know what a multimeter is :? I will try and get some photos but I don't think they will tell you much. Problem is each of the two RGI's I...

dirt and air in system (Meme21)

I am based in East Kent. The guy who did the power flushing did a really good thorough job of cleaning out the system. All I know is that when he switched the power back on to the system the timer had no read out, the central heating was stuck permanently on and the water off, although the...

dirt and air in system (Meme21)

Have found that room stat has no effect on turning boiler off at all, so boiler isn't talking to any of the electrics, pump, roomstat, timer etc.

dirt and air in system (Meme21)

I was told that the way the boiler has been connected to the mains supply through an off/on switch next to it - wire dangling under the boiler, is incorrect and I may need a new power supply for it? Also funny is that at the moment it is taking about 10 minutes for the boiler to respond to the...

dirt and air in system (Meme21)

Ok - so someone (on the WB website as an accredited engineer) came out this morning to have a look. He said that when the boiler was installed in December the wiring was all wrong and that I need an electrician. He would go away and find someone for me and he would then come and change the...

    Electrics completely messed about

Hi Matt While the guy I called in did a very good job of cleaning out the system he didn't seem to have a clue about the electrics. I am really worried now because the boiler seems to be dropping out. He was doing rewiring INSIDE the boiler and muttering that he wished it was a Valient...

    Electrics completely messed about

I have posted this under my previous heading of dirt and air in the system, BUT the problems I have now are much greater. Need advice as to whether this is a job for an RGI or whether to get an electrician in Following all the problems I had with being left with a dirty system following a...
