    Help comparing roof repair quotes

The price and listed work is fine, but I worry if he is competent to do the work as he listed a very unusual size of lead. Normally 300mm code 4 lead would be used.

Capping on parapet wall to cover external insulation

It sounds as though you need some sort of ally capping which could be powder coated to match the roof or wall colour

    Help comparing roof repair quotes

The only real difference is as you say the choice of copings or ridges to cap the wall. I think the angled ridges would look better but that is a personal opinion. I would say that both of the quotes are very expensive and must be from big companies. If you went to a small company the price...

    Removing first row of tiles

The 1st course should be mailed. The second course should push up easy enough and this will allow you to pull out the nails and remove the first course.

The battens seem sturdy now but they would sag in time, 2 25x38 battens together is in effect 76x25 and would be fine

Re roof getting done wrong batten size???

rather than asking him to strip it all an easier better option would be to put another 25x38 batten tight under each batten that is already fixed. This would save damaging the membrane and give extra strength to each course of batten

    Lean to roof minimum pitch...

The Moderns should not be fitted below 17.5. You can either fit something like a Sandtoft 20 20 or maybe you could increase the pitch by fixing firring pieces on top of the rafters.

    Fitting vertical hanging tiles

Vertical plain tiles should have 2 nails in each, but probably 75% of the time they have only one nail in each and are fine.

    Marley Thrutone. 600x600 or 600x300?

600x600 slates are sold as blank slates to cut into abutments or verges, they do not have any nail holes or rivet holes and are not really supposed to be used on main roof areas. Each slate would require 2 nail holes and 2 rivet holes to be made in each. Stick with 600x300 slates which...

Reviews on Vent 3 Cromar breathable membrane and tile vents

All of the breather membranes are BS approve so I guess they should all be ok. From memory I believe that the Cromer is very thin and tears easily. I think that Tyvek Supro and Perma Forte are best. Extra slate vents should be fine and some local authorities insist on them.

venting a roof built with featheredge boarding

Usually you find that support trays do not work very well with plain tiles like you have. You should be fine simply replacing the facia as you have no felt on your roof and it will naturally vent through the gaps in the tiles.

    Copper nails for slate roof?

if they are quoting to use galvenised nails for slates then they are not proper slaters and I would suggest you look for another roofer.
