    All lead flat roof?

A lead flat roof done properly is the best type of flat roof possible. Make sure that who ever does the job uses the correct code of lead for the bays and any corners are burnt correctly

How soon do you expect payment.

Just wondering how soon do you expect to be paid after you have completed a job. I am a self employed roofer, I DO sub contract work for various companies and they generally pay every 2 weeks which is fine. When I work for homeowners the time until they pay varies and I wonder what others...

lead parapet gutter replace - £1500 or £3000

I would say about £1200 for the leadwork and slating including expansion joints plus the scaffolding. Or about £900 without expansion joint plus scaffolding and timber works.

lead parapet gutter replace - £1500 or £3000

For a leadworker it is straight forward and should easily last 20 years.

lead parapet gutter replace - £1500 or £3000

It is true that the gutter would split eventually. If the gutter is in a reasonable code, ideally code 5 minimum, the gutter could be cut and sections of expansion joint welded in. If the gutter is less than code 5 you could have the lead taken out and replaced in code 5 with expansion joint s...

What do you mean by the gutter was installed wrongly. Is there a backfall or are the bays too long or is the code wrong. How wide is the gutter, and is the price to include the timberwork and scaffold .

    Help! Badly slated new roof?

The worst issue is the area around the Velux. As a minimum this area should be stripped off and a proper slate flashing kit installed and area reslated. The slates seem to be Spanish and Spanish slates are often twisted and do not lay as flat as Welsh slate. You should check the size of...

    Parapet Repairs : Long-term vs Short-term

As in my first reply: hack of the render and have 2 coats of rendering done with waterproofer in the mix. Fix 19mm ply on the top of the wall and cover with a lead capping. I would guess the cost would be about 3k plus any scaffold that is needed. It may seem expensive but it is the...

    Parapet Repairs : Long-term vs Short-term

The best idea would be to have the rendering hacked off and to re render the wall with water proofer in the mix. To complete the job it would be best to cap the top of the wall in lead if your budget allows.

    What slates do I have????

not easy from that picture but I think they are Penryhn welsh slates. If you buy new they look much more purple so you may be better off trying salvage yards for second hand slates.

Can anyone explain - tiles -vs- slate?

If you have thick heavy slates at the moment I would suggest that you go for a Burlington blue slate which should easily last you for a hundred years, or if your slate is in good condition you could re use it over new underlay and battens.

Ridge roof tiles secured with screws??

If the ridge tiles were originally bedded in cement the replacement ridges would normally be re fixed in the same way especially if you have profiled tiles. If the ridges are screwed then it would normally be as part of a complete dry fix system,

New Flat roof and new flashing but still a leak?

You cold consider reducing the height of the parapet and fixing ply to the remainder of the wall and fixing felt over the top or if you want the best possible job clad the wall in Lead.

how to finish row of slates on hipped roof

When you battened the roof you should have fixed a batten up against the hip then it would of been easier to fix your cuts.
