I suffered the same problem , new fascia and PVC , to remove old wood fascia and replace, then fix PVC Fascia onto that sounds a waste to me , might as well just paint new fascia and it will last for years . so no need for PVC . Why not settle for cutting out damaged/rotted fascia patching up...

IMO the end stop was a bodge by the previous fitter , . end stop just wedged into position and over time just fell away
