Paint for Yellowing edges on kitchen cupboards

Sorry, I forgot about mentioning which type of paint to use. You would be best served with a high grip primer, to help the paint adhere, followed by something with a satin finish. Oil-based or water-based is your choice, and will depend on colours that are available, but oil-based is harder...

Paint for Yellowing edges on kitchen cupboards

It looks like just the edging tape has discoloured on those end panels. If you can find a colour that matches, it might be worth just buying some new - it is applied easily, with a hot iron. This kind of thing...

    Primer for filler

You generally don't need fancy primers for typical filler repairs. A light coat or two of diluted emulsion (the same as you plan to use for the finish) is fine to use over the filler as the primer, in order to prevent 'grinning'. However, the filler does need to be level and well blended into...

    Painting Render

Standard Weathershield is a water based masonry paint whereas All Seasons is a solvent based masonry paint. The solvent based version is showerproof in 15-30 minutes and can be used at lower temperatures, hence the name 'All Seasons'. The water based version shouldn't be use on plastic and...

Removing a radiator to decorate behind it

Burnerman has given good advice as far as using a decorator's cap - many radiator valves can be a nuisance so these can sometimes be invaluable. However, I noticed that you stated you had turned the TRV to the '*' setting. Be aware that this is just the frost setting, which doesn't mean that the...

    Crap films

I actually 'watched' it yesterday, too. The first hour was ok but the way it changed, with the weird blood-feeding of the demonic/godlike woman, made me lose interest, so I just left it on while I was piddling around the house. No idea what happened at the end, but it sounds like I didn't miss...

Why is my plaster is cracking?

I'll tend to be avoiding recommending products, in any replies I make these days, because I can't be sure of how they may have changed over the last few years. It's good to hear Toupret is still a reliable brand. Cheers, opps.

    Just Saying Hello

Those hideous things are everywhere around where we live. I took ours down and put up a proper wooden fence as soon as we moved in!

    Why is the paint peeling?

That makes sense. Plasterers can't always get a perfect finish in corners so it can be quite rough. This means it is often sanded, and if that dust isn't cleaned off entirely before painting, it can result in the problem you have. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out well for you.

    Why is the paint peeling?

Having had another look at your image, I'm not entirely convinced that PVA is the cause of your problem. Plasterers use PVA to help the skim coat adhere, so that would be underneath the plaster and wouldn't cause this issue. The cause of the problem would be if the PVA was applied to the surface...

    Just Saying Hello

I married one of those crazy things called an American, so it was a toss up between staying in Mid Glam or moving here. It was a tough decision, but getting away from the constant rain just tipped the scales! ;) Wow, thank you. I try my best, but sometimes fail miserably. For those...

    Just Saying Hello

Hi, all. I just wanted to say hello, and wish you all a Happy New Year - better late than never! It's been a while since I've posted, but I still scan the forums when I can. Hope to contribute a bit more this year than last, but I know you miserable buggers couldn't care less! Just kidding...

    Coving and a uneven ceiling.

It depends how much of a dip there is as to how difficult, and unsightly, it will be. Try striking a level line along the wall where the bottom edge of the coving will be so you can measure the difference between high and low spots. Anything up to 10mm difference, over the span of one 3m length...

Wallpaper Curling and Shrinking after Month

Paste-the-wall type papers are usually non-woven, which means they shouldn't stretch or shrink, allowing them to be stuck directly to the wall without the need for soaking. Unless there was a fault with the paper (unlikely), the most likely reason will have been excessive heat, but that could...

Why is my plaster is cracking?

There's nothing unusual about those cracks, but they are the annoying kind that keep re-appearing after a while. If the walls and ceilings had recently been skimmed, any underlying cracks should have been taped with scrim to avoid further cracking. If this wasn't done, the cracks are likely to...

Urgent advice on painting. Not drying?

As JohnD suggests, the sealed up chimney breasts need ventilation, otherwise moisture only has one way to escape - through the wall. What you have is a common occurrence and usually appears near where the fireplace opening was or higher, towards the ceiling. You also have a little patch above...

Will wood primer cause surface delamination in ply pipe boxing?

All forms of would should be primed, including plywood. Hardwood ply should be primed with some form of stain-blocking primer, as resins are likely to bleed through your top coat, especially if it's water based.

Ideas with wall colour and carpet colour please

It's very difficult to recommend colours because what works for one room doesn't always work everywhere. It really depends on the space you have and type of look you want. I can tell you that I've seen a lot of creamy white with the kind of green you have, along with taupes/fawns, and even...
