    repainting skirting

Wow, 80 grit on a presumably sound surface? That seems like overkill to me, and likely to leave a lot of scratches in the surface. Zinsser can be expensive, but one tin will go a long way on skirting and architrave.

    Difficulty removing shower screen handle!

Unless my eyes deceive me, it looks like a curved screen on a P-shaped bath? Finding a replacement handle with 450mm hole centres (sounds the most likely size) and with a matching arc will probably prove difficult in itself, but may be possible. Pics are a bit difficult to see every angle but as...

    repainting skirting

You can apply water based paint over oil based, but there is no one-coat system that anyone here would recommend. I would lightly sand with fine sandpaper (180/240 grit) to de-nib the existing paint and also provide a good key. A high grip primer like Zinsser BullsEye, Zinsser Coverstain...

    Sealing a exterior wall

Unlikely to fully solve the issue as garden walls tend not to have any dampcourse. This allows moisture in the ground to wick up through the pointing. Painting with anything will eventually result in it bubbling and flaking off, if this is the situation. If the wall is only subject to weather...

Using a halogen lamp for painting

Hehe...I knew there'd be a joke or two about rollers and brushes! On a serious note, a good light from various angles will show blemishes in the surface that the naked eye, or poor lighting, won't show. With modern lighting methods, you can often only see these blemishes when the lights are...

    New paint stinks! Please HELP.

Do as dcdec suggests and you should be fine. Although it's Zinsser B-I-N that is recommended for odour blocking, Coverstain does a good job of it too, and B-I-N can be very difficult to work with. Stripping the paint away, especially if it has been applied correctly, will be nothing short of a...

    painting kitchen cabinets

A light sanding just to de-nib the paint is wise, but not essential. Sanding between each coat gives a much smoother and more professional finish. Use 240 or 300 grit paper so you don't scratch or sand through the first coat.

    Weird dado rail..?

Definitely odd looking, and probably not the best method, but its hard to tell what would be best without seeing the step/floor level change. Any chance of a pic that includes the bottom of the wall as well?

    Wallpapering an arched alcove

To make life easy when hanging, trim most of the excess off the top of each sheet to give a curve before pasting, leaving a few cms to trim away when it is on the wall. You can then cut small 'vertical' slits in the top edge of the excess paper which will allow you to bend it around the curve...

    Easi-Fill, too soft?

It's not the best product for small patches but can be used with some level of success. I prefer to use a quality powdered filler, which is equally sandable in small areas but dries harder.
