    Combi system losing pressure

I can hear the groans when I say that the reason I added flux into the fitting was because I followed the advice that I had seen on YouTube!! Anyway, point taken and I won't be doing that again - this is one of my efforts from today - am getting better I think.

    Combi system losing pressure

That's possibly where I slipped up - didn't clean inside as it was a new elbow but I did apply flux internally. I think the joints are good (gave them a good old tap to test!) but do you think I am taking too much of a risk leaving it as it is?

Yes I did - each time!

    Combi system losing pressure

I agree but as both ends got tinned - do i need to worry?

    Combi system losing pressure

I checked the system today and the pressure has not moved so all looks good. There is one thing that is nagging me though. When I replaced the elbow, (I use solder ring) and I couldn't get the solder to flow out the ends no mater how well I cleaned or fluxed (also no evidence of water before...

    Combi system losing pressure

So, received a phone call from the lady downstairs this morning to say that there was water coming through her light fitting! Real pain as that meant the problem was under the tiled bathroom floor. Took me ages to locate the problem (luckily I only had to break one tile as the others lifted)...

    Combi system losing pressure

I just went round with my ladder to check the PRV outlet and it's bone dry so definitely nothing has been flowing through there. I will check the pressure rise, condensate discharge and will also isolate the flow and return on the boiler for a period of time to see what happens.

    Combi system losing pressure

Thanks Ian. I was perhaps slightly incorrect in saying that the pressure remained constant with the heating on - whilst I was there, it did rise slightly but then remained constant (but I was not there for long so don't know if over time it would have risen further). I can get access to the PRV...

    Combi system losing pressure

I have a combi system (Baxi 224) in a rented 1st floor maisonette that is losing pressure and by losing I mean dropping to 0 overnight. I first had a problem three weeks ago but assumed that it just needed topping up (was low but not 0). Yesterday the system failed ( 0 pressure) so I filed and...

DIY Moling for new water main feed

I always like to provide a resolution to my posts so here goes. Had a gas contractor at my house a few weeks back moving the gas supply pipe and meter so took the opportunity to ask the blokes if they did privates reference moling. Not something they had done before (private moling) but they...

Cast iron radiator - how to ensure the valve body is tight

Thanks all. I went with 15 wraps of PTFE with a smear of compound in the end. Won't know if it was successful for a while yet though!

Cast iron radiator - how to ensure the valve body is tight

Definitely wound in the right direction but noted about not enough. Rather than PTFE, would a compound be better?

Cast iron radiator - how to ensure the valve body is tight

A very simple question to answer by someone in the know but anyway here goes!. I have a cast iron radiator with valve bodies that screw directly into the radiator. I applied what I thought was copious amounts of PTFE tape to the valve thread (10 turns) but when the valve is screwed in and...

Roof insulation with plasterboard backing - benefits against cost

Thanks all for your responses - I'll definitely go for the "component parts" rather than fork out for the bonded option.

Roof insulation with plasterboard backing - benefits against cost

I'm in the process of constructing a kitchen extension with a pitched roof. Plan (signed off in building regs) is to use Kingspan K7 (or equivalent) between and over the rafters with a 12.5mm plasterboard finish. Insulation with a plasterboard backing seems to be a lot more expensive than buying...

Eves tile requirement for Marley Modern interlocked tiles

Simple question. I think the answer is no but could someone please confirm if I still need to use eves tiles with interlocked tiles (Marley Modern or similar). Thanks

DIY Moling for new water main feed

Unfortunately Mattylad, the previous owner enclosed the area where I need to mole - they essentially built over the path running down the side of the house. I did think about breaking up the tiled floor but as the tiles are decent (plus I don't know how much concrete they laid the tiles on) I...

DIY Moling for new water main feed

The route is parallel with one side of the house (will be about 3' away from the wall) and I know for definite where my (and my neighbours) services run (water and power are nowhere near). I do know that I have a gas feed (the neighbours gas feed is visible at the front of the house) as I have...

DIY Moling for new water main feed

I need to run in a new water main feed necessitating moling under an existing passageway. I intend to dig the required holes at either end myself but still I am being quoted around £1000 to undertake the moling. I am aware of existing services (gas feed just below the surface) and my thoughts...
